I've noted a lot of people complain about various things here, but a restaurant on the beach anywhere has got to have some good points. On the day we were there (our second visit) we had a relaxed and enjoyable day and were very well treated by the staff. They looked after us and our two duaghters with a smile... More

We had been wanting to try this restaurant for years and were so disappointed with the food. We got bread and dips and burgers for the kids. The burgers were ok but nothing special or great, especially considering they were adult meals and not kids. The bread was stale and warmed in a microwave. We asked for the bread to... More

We had a great afternoon on the stoep! The service was good and the food outstanding. The braaivleis (bbq meat) was very traditional South African. Try the mixed plate with boerewors, lamb and steak with scalloped potatoes! The bobotie and yellow rice was perfection. Highly recommended. The malva desert was the best I had outside of SA and tipsy tart... More

Consistent with other reviews I have read, this restaurant doesn't operate so well when they are busy. We have been before during the day but this time we went on a Saturday night, around 6pm. They were readying themselves for a function (meaning a buffet for a number of people), and the person in charge was shouting at her staff,... More

Nestling right on the beach this one was worth finding. The menu may not be the most exciting, but the quality is good. Our group of five were satisfied with our order. I personally had the steak with was excellent, very tasty. However it came with scalloped potatoes and a salad that looked like it had been prepared much earlier.... More

Excellent local and South African menu. Good beach location, fine wine list, easy access by taxi and ferry from Hong Kong. Lifeguard and full facilities on beach. Feral cattle and water buffalo add to the scene!

Being South African I may be a bit biased but on the other hand, it also gives me higher expectations of South African food. We were pleasantly surprised. The food is not only delicious but it is well presented. The staff were very friendly and the service was good. We were a party of 3 adults, one teenager and 2... More

I used the patronise The Stoep a lot. Then I didn't go for a number of years, unless invited as a guest by someone else, as I had become disappointed by (for my taste) a change in the quality of food and haphazard service. However on Christmas Eve some friends wanted to do a long hike on South Lantau and... More

This is a favourite of Hong Kong's large expat community and with good reason. Lots of wholesome, hearty seafood and meat dishes on the beach. Great place to bring kids - one of the few such outdoor restaurants in Hong Kong! The tomato garlic lobster is something I still dream about.
