Joe is back!

The establishment faces Luard Road, but is accessed from the side. We ate dinner there, on one of a handful of tables, with both stools and a bench seat. Food was average pub food...think fried calamari, burgers and nachos. Nothing too challenging, but servings were ample. Limited wine selection... read more

Please Please Please be very wary. My friend and i were drugged in this hotel and robbed. We were taken to ATMs and without our knowledge (as we had been drugged with Rohypnol) our bank accounts had large sums taken out. This appears to be a very common thing that happens in this area of Hong Kong so this place... More

I am updating previous posts about JB closing -- well it is reopened, same location, ice cold beer, good pub food and great service. I did not stay for the live band but they sounded decent in son opening set. It's a landmark location in Wan Chai -- every taxi driver knows Joe Bananas !! Start or end your "village"... More

Sadly after some thirty odd years JB closed in the spring of 2014. No new location so far announced.

We lived in HK in the 1990s and it was great to go back to Joe Banana's and soak up the atmosphere. Food not gormet but "pub" type, beer good value in happy hour and great music. Ser to see it again and still going strong. Shame Mad Dogs has gone.

I've spent many a night and early morning in Joe Bananas, great place to meet people, always buzzing and friendly and located not far from the trams.

JBs is a good place to start the evening in Wan Chai. Drinks are particularly cheap during happy hour and you can stand on the pavement and smoke if you wish and watch the passing traffic. Later in the evening the doors are closed and it fills with interesting ladies (and lady boys, so be careful)! Food is OK but... More

We had heard so many stories from friends and family about visiting Joe Bananas that we had to try it. OMG what a shocker! I can imagine it’s a good night if you are out with the lads and half cut, but for the family and the quality of drinks was a shocker. The food was awful. It was that... More

Staying in Wan Chai / Causeway Bay

Neighborhood Profile
Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centers of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area. In addition, both areas contain many of Hong Kong’s iconic tourist attractions worthy of your visit.
