Peking duck delight

Wow, this place used to be one of my HKG fav's but they have really lost the plot. A recent visit summarized by mediocre food, inept service, and a big bill. Some food seemed reheated. Staff seemed more interested in their phones and side conversations than helping customers. Portions have always been small, but this visit we were charged for... More

The hotel concierge recommended the restaurant as one of best Cantonese restaurants in HK. The thing is that, what we expected is not what we found. The restaurant has an old HK decoration and it looks classy. The service is attentive but distant, not the kind of waiters/waitresses you should ask what the best suggestions of the menu are. We... We were invited for a business lunch and I must say, I am looking forward to taking my wife here so she too can experience the food. Everything was superb, from the service to ambience to the food. I cant say I saw the prices as we didnt pay, but by judging on the type of patrons there, it would... More

My wife and I dined at Island Tang in early May this year. The food was as good as anticipated and we loved the decor. Unfortunately the experience was marred by two aspects: intrusive service and gouging on wine prices. We found it difficult to relax with wait staff hovering over us the whole time and too quick to remove plates,... Nice decor, attentive staff and food tasty but the portions are decidedly poor and creatively costly such as Double Boiled Fish Maw - 288HK$ or Crispy Half Chicken 288HK$, String Beans 128HK$...and on it goes on...Evian 60$ or a scoop of rice 30$! So all in all it's an experience but you really could do much better for less elsewhere!

This was our 4th or 5th visit and we were not disappointed. In saying that the chef does not take chances and the menu never changes. Peking Duck was excellent but as we were talking we asked the server to prepare the plates for us and it took three people to come over to finally accomplish the task. Loads of... More

Island Tang is a charming restaurant featuring 30's decor and skilled personnel. Food is traditionally Cantonese, including Abalone and shark's fins (poor sharks!) and bird nests. The menu includes an interesting selection of teas as wells as dim sums, which are available all day (unlike other Cantonese restaurants which stop this service at around 5:30pm).

The restaurant is inside The Galleria shopping centre which means if you go in the evening you are walking through a dead space which dampens one's enthusiasm. Once inside one is faced with décor that is usually associated with a classic French brasserie , I liked it but it felt a little odd. The food is quite expensive but well... More

Staying in Central

Neighborhood Profile
Central
When people think of Hong Kong, most imagine movies with famous skyscrapers dominating the skyline. The area widely known as Central is the major financial hub and entertainment district, which truly lives up to the saying, “work hard, play hard.” Bars stay open late into the night and there just happens to be a street party every weekend. Although everything seems to be operating at lightning speed, Central is full of quiet, hidden gems. Nestled between office towers are wet markets and some of the city’s oldest restaurants dating back to the 1960s. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Retreat from the crowds by exploring beautifully restored historical buildings and even a green oasis of botanical gardens.
