Great lunch buffet spread - terrible main dishes

Loved the gold sixties decor. OTT extravagance reminiscent of Hong Kong's heyday era. Glittery, gold, metallics with dark Browns on white. Loved the lunch buffet spread with a good choice of fresh salad leaves, usual salad combination items and dressings. They had a whole Parmesan cheese wheel on... read more

Booked a catch-up lunch with four friends at Gold by Harlan Goldstein last week. The decor is overbearing, even tacky; the excessive use of gold to complement the name was poorly conceived and executed; too in your face lacking taste. That can be overlooked but it was the poor service and food that really left an unplesent feeling and experience.... More

I had the occasion to have dinner at Gold during a recent trip to HK and was delighted with the food, wine selection and impeccable service. The wine list was a real treat with Tobreck wine from Australia! We all had seafood starters followed by steak for main. Desert was a triumph as it silenced a table of six guests!... More

The 388hkd brunch buffet is well worth the money spent for everything including food, service, atmosphere and interior decor. Only if the seafood at the buffet starter session were not that deadly tastless though they look truly freshly prepared, then my stay will end with a high note. Yet the rest of the offer, namely the salad bar, pastries, smoked... More

I don't think this restaurant deserves the Michelin star. We ordered a steak (filet mignon) and the live Boston lobster. Temperature was correct on the steak, which was seasoned well. There was nothing to fault about the lobster, which was cooked with tomatoes, onions and potato, but there was nothing inventive about the flavours. We also had a dessert to... More

This is a great place if you are looking for very good and original cooking in an international atmosphere. The restaurant is beautifully appointed. Staff is attentive and friendly.

Went there because of having a Michelin star, but everything was disappointing. Starting from the atmosphere: as noisy as a Chinese restaurant The service: the manager and waiters are poorly trained. I had a dish which was not touched at all and the waiters/manager doesn't care about it. The food: ordinary standard for appetizer and the mains, so called famous... More

Nice decor, terrible food. The lunch salad buffet was a nice touch but my pork loin was something i could make. I would avoid esp given the price point.

Booked the private room for my party with 11 of us. We bought our favourite wine and didn't mind the corkage fee of HKD350 per bottle and then the charge for the 2nd bottle was waived. Great view and we managed to get see laser show at 8pm. Service was good and they gave good recommendation of all three courses... More

Staying in Central

Neighborhood Profile
Central
When people think of Hong Kong, most imagine movies with famous skyscrapers dominating the skyline. The area widely known as Central is the major financial hub and entertainment district, which truly lives up to the saying, “work hard, play hard.” Bars stay open late into the night and there just happens to be a street party every weekend. Although everything seems to be operating at lightning speed, Central is full of quiet, hidden gems. Nestled between office towers are wet markets and some of the city’s oldest restaurants dating back to the 1960s. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Retreat from the crowds by exploring beautifully restored historical buildings and even a green oasis of botanical gardens.
