A bit of old England

We enjoyed very good service and food at The Pawn. The building in itself is interesting and part of the history of former colonial times- the food should be viewed in that context. My starter was exquisite- fresh tasting, properly seasoned and very well presented. The soup was not as well... read more

Had dinner at the Pawn this evening - went for a drink first downstairs - the cocktail wasn't very nice - too thick and flavoured like a bloody mary rather than the mulled wine cocktail I had ordered. Upstairs for food we had the burger - while the meat was good very well the accompanying flavours were not good and... More

This is British Chef Tom Aitkens first restaurant in Hong Kong. The menu is quite limited. Their main courses seem to concentrate on steaks. Steak in Hong Kong is on the pricey side. This is a fine dining restaurant. It's worth a visit as the building in the old days wa a pawn shop, hence they kept the name The... More

Eclectic bar, in an interesting colonial building location on upper floors opening out onto real terraces facing the road below. Good fun with friends. Drinks are well mixed but had to wait ages and the bar wasn't busy. Upon commenting on the wait, was aggressively fobbed off by very defensive staff saying it was busy. So service and attitude not... When I first came to HK I would quite often go to the Pawn for brunch or dinner - the food then later went spectacularly downhill and the place was only good as a bar so I was quite excited by the revamp and relaunch under Tom Aikens. I had eaten here once before post relaunch and it was quite... More

The pawn is tucked away on the second floor of the building. We went for a round of drinks with friends. We found a table easily, drinks were fairly prices and it had a nice vibe and view from the balcony to wan chai.

This was our first stop of our night of four bars ,this old historic building is now a classy bar with a balcony, and stylish interior ,I had two drinks , the blonde barman was friendly . When we arrived we were lucky to get a balcony table overlooking the street ,the drinks were pricey but you are paying for... More

The Pawn is located in one of the few remaining late 19th century heritage buildings in Wan Chai. It is lovely for a drink, especially if you can get a seat on the veranda, and great for dinner. Our beef burgers were very good and our friends each enjoyed their Shepherds and Fish Pies. The portions are large but very... More

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. I'm very surprised to read about your feedback as, on the night of the 14th,myself and my 2 other managers Kevin and Shirley, we were all working and we cannot recall a specific complain about the smell in the restaurant. Been an open kitchen we often received our fresh fish delivery... More

Having come to HK on business, I have had a pleasure to sample some amazing food in Wan Chai. My visit to The Pawn was the biggest disappointment experienced in HK. Upon arrival, I had to take a lift to the restaurant, part of the 'experience' was a poor choice of 'lift theater', I shall call it - fake CCTV... More

Staying in Wan Chai / Causeway Bay

Neighborhood Profile
Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centers of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area. In addition, both areas contain many of Hong Kong’s iconic tourist attractions worthy of your visit.
