Excellent dumplings

Mr. Shi's is a simple but nice restaurant situated in a nice hutong north of the Forbidden city. Their key dish is of course dumplings and they're good at it! We took the fried dumplings and went back the day after for more.

Mr Shi is awesome, the food is really good and the cheese dumplings in particular taste great... but the place is kind of expensive by Beijing standards....

It's funny to read that this place is hard to find. I found it by accident by wandering through the Hutong and noticing this PACKED restaurant. I was traveling solo so I squeezes in to try and figure out why the crowds were here. The dumplings did not disappoint! I couldn't try as much as I wanted by myself, but... More

I agree with the other reviewer, the dumplings are fine, but $11 usd per a person is a ripoff for dumplings. They are cheaper in new york... First time TripAdvisor has disappointed me in Beijing. They also charged me more than the menu said it should, but since I do not speak the local language I did not push.

This is a must when being in Beijing. Probably the best dumplings in town. You simply choose the fillings and decide whether you prefer them boiled or fried. They are being prepared as soon as you order them. Hence, completely fresh! The place is truly authentic in a hutong area and not one of these "fancy mainstream chains" you find... More

Really great dumplings. Good atmosphere, certainly worth the slight difficulty in finding the Baochao hutong. Staff are adequate for a guy who doesn't speak the language. I pointed and it was understood, I got everything I asked for.

Small eatery with good food.Picture menu in mandarin but staff are helpful.Free wifi. The dumplings are a must-try.Can order in a batch of 15 or a 3 combo of 15.Would be better if they had english menu for food like their drinks. Place is off a main road but relatively easy to locate with mobile maps.

Been here many times, as I live in Beijing . Never fails. Great service, cool location (tricky to find first time) and really top selection of food. Love huge selection of dumplings: steamed or fried! And draft beer - on tap. Love it. You will enjoy it, guaranteed. Only hope that opening another store in the Village doesn't turn it... More
