Maybe we ordered wrong...

You have to be willing to go on an adventure to find it, but it is worth it! We heeded other travelers' advice and ordered sweet & sour (shrimp) and it was absolutely wonderful. The fried rice was also very flavorful. I think we went wrong with the dumplings we ordered - they weren't great. We... read more

We have lived in China for a while now and had a lot of dumplings, but this is by far the best and the non dumpling dishes are amazing too. To make sure you get there add it to google maps while on WiFi so you can still get there when you are out of Internet range. Easy to get... More

But worth the effort. The dumplings were really good. Better if you are a group of people sharing the bill as it can be expensive. If you are just one or two people stick to ordering the cheap dumplings. Otherwise other dishes can be costly based on our canadian exchage. 15 boiled pork and carrot dumplings cost us like 4... We went there purely by the reviews on trip advisor. The restaurant is 5-10 minute walk from the Drum tower. The dumplings tasted great but they were exceedingly expensive. The list of options is so long it's actually overwhelming. You are able to buy a trio (of 15) or a duo (of 12) dumplings or just a group of 6... More

Small restaurant with an expansive dumpling menu. We had a variety of the,, some boiled, some fried, all quite good. In addition, we had one of the best sweet and sour chicken I've found yet in either China or the US.

Me, four friends and a guy named Ian had a nice meal in Mr Shi's. The dumplings were good and freshly prepared. I heard through Scott that Tom really enjoyed the green bean with sechuan pepper. I was initially deterred by idea of a sample plate (5 x 3 flavours) as I don't like to gamble, but quickly began to... More

I went to mr shi last year in Beijing and I must admit I loved it so much. There are different types of dumplings, both fried and boiled, made with meat or vegetables. It's cheap and funny because the owner is very kind and makes you feel comfortable. I think he loves western people :) one of the best restaurants... More

Visited here with a few friends and we're lucky to get a table for everyone as this place is rather small. This adds to the charm. Food is made fresh and there is lots of choice. The green beans were delicious and Tom said he could have ate more. We all enjoyed the sweet and sour and the meatballs. The... More

Went here my first night in Beijing and had to go back the second night. Staff were friendly and courteous, especially considering how busy they were. Even have a menu in English which is always helpful for people like myself. Food came out fast and was delicious. Can't go past the dumplings, fried or steamed they are both fantastic. Vast... More

I was taken to Mr Shi's by relatives who live in Beijing and often eat here. We are all vegetarian and so I left it up to my relative to order, and we had a great choice. Everything was delicious, including the sweet dumplings. The restaurant is situated in the atmospheric Hutong and I loved all the pictures up on... More
