I love Mr Shi's! I know some ex-pats get a little snooty about it, as it is a little touristy, but hell, they are still the best dumpling's I've had in Beijing (and I've had a lot). Have not tried their "Westernized" dumplings with cheese, but why mess with the classics! The beef and mushroom (fried) is great, and I... More

You can get lost In the Gulou Hutong area, and you come across this small restaurant. The service is acceptable, but the food is rewarding. You are used to having boiled dumplings, try the fried dumplings, they are worth the try. Good place to go with friends who come visit China !

We managed to visit twice in the three days we spent in Beijing, so this says something, doesn't it. Mainly that it was in the same hutong as our Orchid Hotel, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and take friends there. We thought that all of the varieties we tasted were great, and the dipping sauce of dark Chinese... More

Ate here solo in June. Staff were friendly but limited in their ability to speak English however most obliging and willing to understand through pointing, smiling and nodding. Menu is in English and Chinese. Had a plate of 15 beef and fennel dumplings which were lightly fried and delicious. There was a sampler menu but it didn't have any beef... More

Mr. Shi claims to have the "Best dumpling in Beijing!" Although I agree, they are very delicious and a unique fusion of Western and Eastern cuisine, they are not the best dumplings I've ever had. We had to go to the overflow 2nd restaurant and I think for that reason our service was very bad. They kept getting our order... More

Mr Shi's claims to be the best dumplings in Beijing, well they're wrong. Mr Shi's dumplings are the best in China!

My girlfriend read many good reviews for this place so we decided to check it out. The first thing I noticed were the outrageous prices on the menu. However, we decided to stay and try it. We ordered the tomato-egg-basil dumplings and the chocolate-banana dessert dumplings. This ended up costing 120RMB... for 18 dumplings! The dumplings did not even taste... More

I don't really eat dumplings so I ordered Mapo tofu, which I eat at home all the time (my favorite). But. My husband convinced me to try a pork and cheese fried dumpling and that was IT! We had to go back twice, killer dumplings! Also.. Mr. Shi is usually there making sure everything runs smoothly and chatting with his... More

Nice place near the Orchid Hotel. It is popular with foreign and Chinese as well. It has an English menu. The menu includes many popular Chinese dishes but the specialty is the dumplings, ordered either fried or boiled. It is fun to order several kinds and share them. Prices are reasonable.

We were staying across the road at The Orchid hotel and came across Mr Shi's as it's directly opposite the entrance to our hotel. We LOVED it! I'm always a little concerned about what I eat in Asia, especially China and am probably way to paranoid about getting sick for my own good.... Well trust me when is say that... More
