When a dumpling house saves a rabid and famished bunch of foot-weary Forbidden City touros on a sticky Beijing day after a last-minute rickshaw tour of the hutongs with its "longer than my Johnson" list of entree, mains and dessert dumplings then you know you're in the right joint. Yes, i said dessert dumplings. Here's the deal - skip over... More

The prices here are well above the normal for dumplings in Beijing, but I have never had anything but excellent food. They have a couple hundred varieties of dumplings (I always get fried), and I have never had one that wasn't good. At other dumpling places I have had undercooked meat and flavorless meals, but never at Mr. Shi's. 15... More

The cheese dumplings are really good and they have really interesting combinations of flavors. Though the dessert Dumplings are my favorite, chocolate and banana ^^

I went there a few days ago for a late lunch. Because I didn't know the area very well, I ended up in the smaller restaurant located just a few meters from the main one. The waitress looked quite bored and uninterested in her clients. I ordered 2 types of vegetarian dumplings. They were good but not as good as... More

If you have the chance, go there and try the fried cheese dumplings! The steamed ones are also not bad, but I had better ones.

If you are looking for a cold escape from the hot summer Beijing - this is not the right place. However the food is worth the sweat. We enjoyed dumpling and some other classical dishes e.g. Chicken Kong Pao - we really liked it and came back for a second time, which was even better.

I love Mr Shi's! I know some ex-pats get a little snooty about it, as it is a little touristy, but hell, they are still the best dumpling's I've had in Beijing (and I've had a lot). Have not tried their "Westernized" dumplings with cheese, but why mess with the classics! The beef and mushroom (fried) is great, and I... More

You can get lost In the Gulou Hutong area, and you come across this small restaurant. The service is acceptable, but the food is rewarding. You are used to having boiled dumplings, try the fried dumplings, they are worth the try. Good place to go with friends who come visit China !

We managed to visit twice in the three days we spent in Beijing, so this says something, doesn't it. Mainly that it was in the same hutong as our Orchid Hotel, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and take friends there. We thought that all of the varieties we tasted were great, and the dipping sauce of dark Chinese... More

Ate here solo in June. Staff were friendly but limited in their ability to speak English however most obliging and willing to understand through pointing, smiling and nodding. Menu is in English and Chinese. Had a plate of 15 beef and fennel dumplings which were lightly fried and delicious. There was a sampler menu but it didn't have any beef... More
