The Schoolhouse at Brickyard at the Great Wall is located a short drive from the Mutianyu entrance. All the old farmhouse buildings are restored and there is a small restaurant overlooking the garden. We were booked for a set lunch menu and could choose from 2 starters, 3 mains and there was some dessert and coffee/tea afterwards. Starter choice was... More

A pleasant enough setting and we both had the set lunch(no choice in the matter) it was a nice place. A little noisy on day we went with both a private event and some loud american fellow diners. Had to wait a while for the service too.

Nice location, good service, OK food. I was disappointed at the lunch here. I didn't think it was good value and the dining room was quite cold. I had arranged this in advance but didn't get what I thought I'd arranged for myself and my friends. However, I enjoyed the location and the service was good.

Dear Moominmama M, I really appreciate that you shared your frank comments. Our aim is a five star experience across the board for every guest and clearly we let you down with "OK" food and a room that should have been warm and welcoming. Whenever I go to the wall, I always stop here. The food is quite decent, and the arts and crafts are quite nice. Service is usually pretty friendly.

Very average meal that cost 100usd....spaghetti that tasted like it came from a jar....tofu that was tasteless...etc We were there as a family and there was nothing designed for kids....in fact all meals were available as set lunches that cost about 20usd plus plus.....not everything was bad but we weren't impressed

Dear Tarek E, I'm so sorry that our little canteen serving fresh food homemade from scratch from local ingredients was not to your taste. We do have a children's menu with several choices and there's always our all-natural small-batch ice cream with no additives, stabilizers, or coloring agents, which is offered with every meal. We do appreciate your feedback and... More

I can't tell yo how much I enjoyed this experience, it was the perfect ending to our Great Wall adventure. The food was amazing, the staff was warm and friendly and the setting was magical. Dear CynthiaL1963, Thank you so much for sharing your experience with Trip Advisor members. The Schoolhouse was originally an abandoned village primary school and we have tried to give it new life by providing jobs to our neighbors and offering food that is good, clean, and fair. This was the most welcoming and beautiful spot on our trip! We has an insane hike from a local village up to the wall and back down to Schoolhouse. The to a wonderful meal in a beautiful setting! I would go to China just to stay at this place again!
