In our experience Abyssinia is your best choice for authentic Ethiopian food in Nairobi. We enjoy going as a family on Sunday afternoons. The owner is great with the kids and the service is excellent. If you want "fast food" don't opt for Ethiopian and if you want fast Ethiopian, then you don't really want Ethiopian. Relax, enjoy the experience... More

Have always been told of how good ethopian food is but had never ventured into it. Was taken to Abyssinia by a friend who recommended it and for all the part he did all the ordering. It is a taste that slowly grows on you i guess as its very different from other types of food. Definitely something that we... More

I'd been meaning to try Ethiopian for years, but just hadn't gotten around to it. So, being in Nairobi for a visit, I figured I'd give Abyssinia a shot since it seemed well reviewed here on TA. While the service is a bit slow, the food we ordered was delicious. Tip: if you've never had Ethiopian before, research it, which... More

The rating of the restaurant goes to show how poor Trip Advisor is when making decisions on where to go out. TA rates this restaurant a 4.5/5 ! Poor Show! Please note, we were not expecting much, as we were in it for the experience; and being locals we knew we would not get a high class dining experience, but... More

We were a bit disappointed. We eat Ethiopian food quite a bit. This is not the best Ethiopian restaurant in town. The service was good. The food OK. The atmosphere also good. They made a fire in the fireplace while we waited. Although the place was empty on a Saturday afternoon, the wait was long. At least 45 minutes. Not... More

We had a group of more than 10 and we were about half an hour late due to traffic yet they held our table. The food and coffee was delicious. Our June 2013 visit was our second trip to Abyssinia. The wait staff took excellent care of us.

The only downside is that the help that they provide you whilst ordering is maybe not as good as one of the more popular places. However this won't phase anyone who has ordered Ethiopian food before, and certainly shouldn't put you off. This place is truly excellent.

I went to try this restaurant because of the good reviews I saw here in TripAdvisor. I was a little disappointed with what I actually experienced. The only good thing I had was the coffee. Everything else fell short in terms of flavor and heat.

I don't have much to add that has not already been said. I went with a group of 8 people and we all enjoyed the food. Great variety, really good injera bread, nice outdoor garden setting. This is the third Ethiopian restaurant I've visited in Nairobi and is hands-down the best. As noted by a previous reviewer, it can be... More
