Set in 21 acres of Karen, a leafy suburb twenty kilometers Southwest of Nairobi, lies the Purdy Arms. With a view of the famed knuckled ridge of the Ngong Hills (“I had a farm in Africa, at the foot of the Ngong Hills” – Karen Blixen, Out of Africa) it is a relaxing place to stay, have a meal or drink or two.

Nice and friendly atmosphere

Hygienic and good food, the chicken Kiev is comparable to that you could get in the UK, with a soft exterior guarding the smooth garlic oil/butter on the inside. Purdy arms has a great outside seating area, with the option to sit in the lower part of the garden, where there is also climbing frames... read more

I love this place so much; it has a little bit of everything for everyone: - great atmosphere and beautiful gardens - friendly staff - fair prices for good food (everything we've eaten there has been pretty good) - big garden for kids to play The butter chicken is amazing and the goat cheese salad is also really good!

A very nice restaurant in a lush green gardens in Karen area of Nairobi.... great ambience and good crowd... We tried Indian food, it was fantastic and delicious better than some of the good restaurants in India. it's also a great place to hang out with a pitcher of beer watching football or a rugby matches streaming live. Go and... More

Went for lunch and we ate a great meal in their beautiful garden. Staff was quick and friendly. Although there were a lot of people there is also a lot of space so that you can maintain a nice quiet atmosphere. There was a jungle gym for kids and clearly a lot of events occur in the space on weekends.... More

Our lodge host put this restaurant along with Talisman as nice restaurants for lunch in Karen Area. Indeed, we were not disappointed after being there. We like very much to dine outside however were discouraged by the "possible" cigaret smokes. The foods and services were very nice. For sure, we will be there again when we next in Karen.

Went for lunch with family. The gardens were not well maintened and took ages to get a table allocated as there was no staff to help. Finally we were taken to a table which was filthy. The chairs were very uncomfortable and the cushions were filthy!! Our menu got mixed up and the food was awefull. No taste. The salad... More

We went for lunch today and were shocked to see the state of the place. Flies everywhere. Kids refused to visit the washrooms as they were smelling and they were not cleaned. Extremely filthy, smelly and service was very poor. They even got our order switched. We ended up paying more for a dish we never received.

On a saturday there is the farmer's market and a bouncy castle. Hugely popular with tourists and locals alike and has a great atmosphere, generous portions and a children's "make your own pizza" bar. Because it is so popular service can be slow.

We are regular patrons. The grounds (10 acres ) are beautifully maintained with high, mature trees and lush lawns. They offer fabulous setting for outdoor functions, especially daytime. The Purdy arms was originally built as a grand colonial home and the conversation to restaurant bar has been synpathetic to its original qualities. The bar area is large and airy and allows... More
