Set in 21 acres of Karen, a leafy suburb twenty kilometers Southwest of Nairobi, lies the Purdy Arms. With a view of the famed knuckled ridge of the Ngong Hills (“I had a farm in Africa, at the foot of the Ngong Hills” – Karen Blixen, Out of Africa) it is a relaxing place to stay, have a meal or drink or two.

Reasonably priced fantastic pub-style food

Great menu and seating (outdoors). There is also a kids play area. It is important to get a reservation on weekends or else sometimes difficult to get a table.

Tucked away in Marula lane, it's pleasant enough and has a large plot there, ample parking, lots of seating inside or out but the slow service and the below average menu and food have sadly lost this place a few customers recently. There's a farmers market there on a Saturday till 3 pm which is worth a look and if... More

Dear Travelling Zebra, Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review of the Purdy Arms. As a family owned business we care very much that our customers and friends enjoy their time at the Purdy Arms, so were upset to read your review. We are aware that service can be slow on Saturdays and Sunday when... More

Great place to take the family on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. The service is a bit slow but the team is very friendly and the beer is seved cold . the food is average apart from the Pizzas which are very good. Kids enjoy very much the big garden where they can run, the slide and the swing.

Thank you so much for your kind review. As a family with young children ourselves this is exactly why we set the Purdy Arms up. So grateful that you said the beer was served cold as after an earlier review I was starting to worry :) Thanks again and look forward to welcoming you back. Kindest Regards Rob More

Visited late May. Food was fabulous. Staff was top notch. Were were a pretty big group so we needed to be a little patient. Will definitely return. :)

Every Saturday Purdy Arms hosts a farmers' market. The market is excellent, you can buy fresh produce, sweet goodies and lots of other stuff. I had a salad at Purdy's and though it was pretty OK, it was far too small to justify the price. We were also a large group and took almost 2 hours before we got our... More

Dear Louise, Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. I am glad that you enjoyed the farmers market, but obviously saddened by your comments on the Purdy Arms. We were surprised by your comments on our prices as we are competitive when compared to other restaurants in the area and consider ourselves as part of... More

If you go here, get the Indian food because there is an Indian chef who makes it well. With the being said, it's a great place to get the feel of a colonialist in Kenya. You're eating in a place most Kenyans do not eat at or could afford for 1 meal. Again, a comfortable establishment with good food at... More

It was with high expectations our family visited Purdy Arms a sunny Sunday, but we were sadly disappointed. Given previous recommendations we hope our experience to be an exception. *Atmosphere* Purdy Arms is a strange mix of English pub, restaurant, playground and farmers market. The clientele are mainly expats and tourist - no surprise given the posh location. Our children... More

We visited for an evening meal. Despite the chill we chose to sit on the veranda and were surprised when a brazier of burning embers was placed at our table. Just enough warmth to keep the chill (and mossies) at bay. We ordered soup and grilled calamari as starters and were struck by the excellent tastes. My partner stated that... More
