Based on my experience and the reviews I've read about Jiko, it looks like they are taking the negative feedback seriously. Had a group dinner a few weeks ago and the service was a little slow but the food was delicious and the hotel and restaurant are beautiful. Went there again last night and this time it was so much... We spent our last night in Nairobi at dinner in a private room at Jiko and it was lovely. The service is great, the wine list is wonderful and features a lot of South African wines and the food is solid. The restaurant has a sultry, swanky air, which the Tribe hotel is clearly trying very hard to cultivate, and it... More

Jiko is the coffee shop/restaurant of The Tribe Hotel in Gigiri. This is a boutique hotel priced like a 5* hotel as this is one of the nearest hotel to the UN & US Embassy hub in Nairobi. My husband & I went for lunch before my flight to UK. We were expecting a daily buffet lunch but unfortunately only... More

Expecting it to be busy due to the ongoing World Cup season, we were quite disappointed to see we were only one of the few tables. Jared our waiter was very good, he let us sit outside where there was a huge screening of the match which was live. Due to the onset of the chilly weather, we expected some... More

The service at the jiko restaurant downstairs was excellent .However the calamari was too dry and the waiter clearly did not understand our gluten free request . The service at the upstairs lounge was terrible .The waiters were mixing the drinks and not once did I see them leave the bar .Makes me wonder who they were mixing the drinks... More

As far as reviews go, I hold no punches when it comes to culinary experiences. Especially in places I visit for the first time. I have to say the experience at Jiko offered all that is to be expected of a fine dining experience. The service was up to par, the ambience was great and the meal was divine. I... More

I joined a colleague for breakfast at Tribe. It is a long way behind its competition (Norfolk, Serena, Sankara, Kempinski, Ole Sereni etc.), a real lack of choice / variety / selection. Yoghurt that comes in a small glass that contains around 3 teaspoons only, no bircher muesli, even the fruit selection was poor. The sausages were just dreadful, no... More

Not what I would expect from a restaurant in a 'boutique' hotel as the manager called it. Food was good but the service was pathetic. Waiters seemed like they were tired. The restaurant seemed keen to make us pay for what we hadn't ordered for. Items prices on the bill were inflated compared to what was on the menu card... More

I've been to Jiko a number of times and have never been overly impressed except for brunch (which was lovely in the past but I'm not sure I'd return for it after last night - something has changed for the venue overall). We went again last night for Nairobi's first attempt at "Restaurant Week" and were not impressed. Ravioli starter... More

Once one of our favorite places to go to was such a disappointment last night. We haven't been to JIKO in over a yearns certainly standards have dropped since then. What was once a fine dining restaurant now feels tired. The menu has changed significantly and was was most disappointing was the quality of the food and presentation. Poor presentation,... More
