Tokyo Restaurant is a Japanese/Korean restaurant that has over 10 years of experience serving top class food in Nairobi. Our founder and Head Chef is Mr. Youngho (Philip) Shin, who is one of the only licensed chefs in Japanese food in Kenya. He has over 30 years of experience in the restaurant and hotel business. Before coming to Kenya, he spent 10 years working for a 5 Star hotel in South Korea, where he learned his trade. With this level of experience, you can rest assured that food coming from his hands will be the best in the country. We recently closed our Karen branch and opened a new branch in Kolloh Road, Lavington, which will now be our main and only branch. We are open for dinners only for now, but expect to do the grand opening in September.

Great sushi in a garden setting

Popular Japanese restaurant, the sushi here is great (had a veg combo with salmon rolls). Inside and outside sitting, outside is a garden, you sit under the trees, they also have private seating areas.

The restaurant is now located in the Lavington area. This place has a very mellow ambiance, perfect place to have dinner with friends or the Mr/Mrs. I truly enjoyed the crunchy salmon sushi rolls and the avocado tokyo sushi platter, mainly because I love avo in my sushi. Prices are quite fair. Indulge, try am sure you'll come out smiling.

I was struck by the friendliness of the staff who set the tone for the rest of the meal. There is garden and restaurant sitting, which is great depending on the number of your party - the children can safely play in the garden. The menu is extensive with a variety of options. My friends and I enjoyed ordering sampling... More

This restaurant has warm and friendly staff and Manager. There services are equally fast. It gas a family setting, with a well maintained garden and grounds. They are nolonger in Karen, they long moved to Kolloh Road, near Lavington Green.

It does what it says on the tin - it is a relaxed, friendly, down-to-earth establishment. The food is good. It is not posh or pretentious. It is kid and family-friendly. It is a large restaurant, but still possible to have intimate dinners. It has always been consistent. We will go again.

Don't go here very often... Shame really as it is just down the road.... The staff are always pleasant and willing... The food can be hit or miss... The presentation is not good.. Comes in bowls and is cold by the time you get to trend.. What's wrong with the burners to keep it warm..the decor of the restaurant is... More

We used to eat Japanese food in Nairobi and has better restaurant than this, we didn't like the miso soup, the sushi and sashimi wasn't as we liked, best to use other Japanese restaurant in Nairobi.

We had a lovely tepenyaki and good quality sushi. I recommend this restaurant for family meals - lunch or diner. The waiters are friendly and the manager is always ready to take you through the menu. If you want to experience Japanese cuisine, try Tokyo restaurant in Karen- Nairobi.

My family and I came here for lunch and it was a disaster. If you want Japanese food in Karen, then Haru is a much better choice or go to Furasato in town. The problem in Tokyo started with the green tea which consisted of tasteless tea bags instead of loose tea leaves. Not a good sign for a quality... More
