The Thorn Tree is a excellent restaurant right in the center of Nairobi. The restaurant is famous from the old days before mobile phones and e-mails, where guests would leave a message for friends on the Thorn tree that is in the middle of the restaurant. The restaurant still manages to maintain it's old world charm The food as usual... More

For the 2nd time, I chose this cafe for the last dinner in Nairobi for the small group that I was with. The service was terrific, the food excellent and the value exceptional. We sat upstairs in the beautiful bar for about an hour & a half before going for dinner, we only had tea & coffee & the server... More

July 2010...We had a very nice dinner at the Thorn Tree and some of the group went for the local food and really enjoyed the experience.....that was before we had actually had a Nyama Choma at the back of a pub in Marigat (much more rustic and authentic). Only down side was that the waiter apparently was not impressed by... More

The spread of the breakfast was amazing...eggs to order, muffins, muesli, etc...great food, lovely staff and loved the way they took care of my kid and his requirements for breakfast. There was nothing to really to dislike.

Not really a destination spot provided you've been there at least once to see the legendary thorn tree, but definitely one of nicest spots for lunch in the CBD.

an outdoor dinner on Friday evening... relaxing after a soso working day. We got an oke dinner (lamb dishes) at the Thorn Tree/ Sarova, but an unforgettable evening of jazz life music.. the saxofonist (Richard Alai) in/and the Harmoniqs band. Seemingly they play every Friday evening... I assume that is until the day they will be discovered to play for... More

We enjoyed four breakfasts and two dinners at the Thorn Tree Cafe. We chose to sit outside and enjoyed each of our experiences. The breakfast buffet provides a nice selection including fresh fruit and made to order omelets and crepe like pancakes. We really appreciated their coffee with steamed milk. Most nights a local band entertains the dinner crowd on... More

Stayed at the Stanley Hotel twice in October. The Thorn Tree cafe is downstairs on the road frontage. It is a small outdoor cafe with a very small thin acacia tree in the centre (obviously not the original 'thorn tree'!) and actually doesn't have much appeal. Does good lattes and coffee though. Not worth a special trip but OK if... More
