My husband booked a table at this restaurant for 8.30pm on Monday 31st March. When we finally arrived after having braved several major city centre traffic jams, the place was closed and we were told by a security guard that they had relocated to Karen. Now why on earth is there no mention of this on their website (which lists... More

Thank you for posting such a complimentary review about Tamarind Nairobi. We regret to tell you that we have had to close Tamarind Nairobi in the CBD after 37 years of service. Our last day was 28th March. But all is not lost as we shall be opening for dinner at The Karen Blixen Coffee Garden in the leafy suburb... More

The restaurant itself is a bit hard to find. But worth it. The food was all quite good but the restaurant was mostly empty. Desert came with our names on the plates accompanied by a saying. A surprising touch. Too much of an effort to go cause of the location.

Last visited March 2014. Been here more than 20 times over the years. Its expensive by local standards but well worth the treat. Note - If in Mombasa North Coast. The Tamarind Mombasa is even better!!! The oysters although smaller than Pacific/Atlantic Oysters are divine: raw or cooked mambrui if you prefer. The Prawns Piri Piri are not as hot... More

A colleague of mine insisted we come downtown to Tamarind, based on the memories of a great meal 18 years ago! We were skeptical, but the food and drinks were excellent (try the Zanzibari seafood casserole), as was the service. A dessert sampler came on plates decorated with our names and philosophical sayings etched in chocolate icing. Definitely the place... More

Have been in Kenya for 10 days, from Nairob cityi to Safarì to beach & back to Nairobi for a last night celebratory dinner at The Tamarind in Nairobi. What a let down. We arrived at 7.45 to an empty restaurant, the waiter introduced himself & then asked for the name of each guest in writing. We dutifully obliged while... More

We ate early and had the place practically to ourselves, so cannot really comment on atmosphere etc. However the food was excellent - fish was fresh, well seasoned and sympathetically cooked. The staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Prices were a little high for Nairobi but the food was a level above anything else we had there, and... More

I took my wife for dinner at the Tamarind in December. The service was great and staff was happy to serve. The was a great selection of wine, drinks and food off the menu. All the sea food is really fresh and cooked to perfection. The ambiance is cosy, but also a bit confined. It isnt a large room, so... More

I had great expectations. But the restaurant itself is quite dark, no windows and for me, I d like to have open spaces and nice views. Food...probably just hardly average. Pricing: over priced. I hope to visit the one on Mombasa to give better rating.
