Local food and music

Visited on a Thursday evening, you can eat, drink and dance to rhumba by a live band. Variety of food and different set ups to choose from. Beers at 200 soft drinks at 100.

Kosewe's great place to hang out anytime, always popular and sometimes with local Lingala bands at volume 11. Not much can be added - the reputation is well established simple , good tasting food at very reasonable prices in the centre of Nairobi. Contrary to title they have cutlery also, if you ask :-)

Also know as Kosewe's, this place apparently was started as a road-side fish kiosk. The owner apparently became well-known after being featured in an advertisement that promoted cooking fish with a particular oil. Since then, it's significantly grown and seems to be a popular hangout for public servants, Kenyan NGO workers and businessmen. Lots of space to sit with friends... More

Ranalo offers great Kenyan cuisine at an affordable rate. I can always count on them to deliver top notch on whatever ethnic meal I am inclined towards on the particular day. Word of note: go there around 12 pm else you will be frustrated due to lack of space due to the very many patrons who frequent there.

I have see this place as a recommendation on several guides but I must say that it was'nt the best. Food was below average. The nice think was the live music with african-latino mix. Very pleasent to listen!

I visited Ranalo Wednesday through Sunday in May/June 2014 during my vacation in Kenya. Muziki motomoto na Maroon Commandos and Nairobi band. I can't wait to visit again soon. There's no place like home. Thanks Ranalo foods for keeping up our tradition - Music, Food, Fanta, Tusker, name it... Kenya is the best place; Nairobi is the best. I hope... More

Not so easy to spot, but the entrance is very close to the Nation building with a small sign saying Ranalo’s. Go through a doorway and a security guard will do the usual search and then you head upstairs and enter a different world! Go to the clerks window, order and pay for the food then go wash your hands... More

Simple, cheap, stripped-down, straightforward and damned tasty. Order at the counter. Sit. You've got your food within a few minutes from the giant cafeteria in front. No utensils. Authentic to the gills.

Ranalo Restaurant aka Kosewe located right in the middle of Nairobi CBD has never been a disappointment. I visit the restaurant regularly and the food they serve is first class real Kenyan dishes - whether you order coconut stew fish, deep fried fish, free range chicken, quail (aluru) - you'll always find yourself visiting them again and again. Their pricing... More
