We arrived here after a late flight from the UK and were warmly welcomed by Peter, who showed us to a lovely comfortable room. We didn't see much of the surroundings until daylight, but were delighted to find the most beautiful garden the next morning....Breakfast was delicious. The house and it's interior is fascinating, and we would have loved to have stayed longer than the one night we were booked for. Hopefully we will visit again, and do exactly that.More

I love staying here! There are usually monkeys around the front entrance or in the garden area by the pool. Nice African decor and location with a jungle-feel. Friendly staff and GREAT food!

Stayed here 2 nights before heading on to elephant sanctuaries. As others have mentioned, the location is excellent and the people very nice. My room was large, clean, quiet and dark at night - a huge bonus to me. However the bed was hard (yes,...common, I know), the shower very weak, & the towels threadbare. I’m afraid the meals were disappointing and would not get a pass from me.More

We stayed two nights prior to our safari. This is great place to stay if you want see some sights around Nairobi and adjust to a time change before traveling more in Kenya. Macushla is especially convenient to the attractions in Karen - Elephant and...Giraffes and Karen Blixen House. It is very intimate and the décor is eclectic and fun. We felt relaxed and very much at home. The staff was very accommodating and made special arrangements for us to have a snack when we arrived after midnight and take "carry-out" breakfast in the van when we had to leave at 5:45 a.m. to get to Wilson airport.More

I've stayed here 3 times now and just love it. It is in Karen so very close to all the things you need to see (Giraffes, Sheldrick, Kzuri beads, Karen Blixen's house, Utamaduni, Mattbronze etc). The house itself is very comfortable and inviting iwth African...decor (no animal skins)...coffee/cakes on the back terrace on arrival...nicely appointed ensuite rooms and great dinners too. Vervet monkeys are fed by the owner in the front carpark each morning. Inviting pool in the rear garden...AND very reasonable price!More

I have been here a few times and it has always been a nice experience, from the friendly owner to the kind staff who do their best to serve you. It is not easy to find it, as there are no signboards, but well worth...the effort to get there. I like the tea with fresh scones, clotted cream and home made jam. The food is good, too. It is a quiet, quaint, exclusive spot with great ambience and decor. A great place for a date.More

Quiet, private and small. walk the wooden deck, listen to the wind chimes and then settle down to a drink or swim and in the evening get to enjoy the fireplace and read a novel or magazine ..

Wonderful house with charming bedrooms. Value for money is just right and wouldn't ask for anything more. Perfect for out of towners staying when you do not have enough room at home. Good food and unobtrusive service.

I stayed here during 24hours transit in Kenya after a month in Africa. This guest house is in such a peaceful place in the suburbs of Karen and walking distance to the giraffe centre. My room was clean comfortable and charming. The local staff I...encountered could do more to help and were very accommodating in arranging a late check out and taxi transport to attractions for me with little notice. My meals were very good and ready at the agreed time. Also a pleasant surprise was the morning tea/coffee bought to me in my room on waking. The guest house is set in delightful grounds with the entertainment of birds and monkey's on hand.More

Tucked away in the Karen suburbs, macushla, which means 'my beloved' in Gaelic, the Celtic language of the Gaels or Goidels of Ireland, is a romantic and quiet place without the usual conjestion one encounters in most of Nairobi's restaurants. Surrounded by indigenous bushland, the...6-roomed Macushla is a bed and breakfast boutique hotel with a rustic look to it that makes one think they have suddenly been teleported into the heart of Kenya’s savannah when moments before they were a few kilometres from Nairobi. The ambience of the place has an air of unadulterated dryness about it that reminds one of the arid lands of northern Kenya. Really good place to reboot and get your creative juices flowing again, especially if you are a creative and blogger like me. The art and decor of the place is equally inspiring as it is full of Kenya's rich colonial history.More

Great place for some privacy, peace and romance. We spent our wedding night here in 2009 and have been here twice since. Its peaceful, the staff are friendly and the food is freshly made and delicious. I would pick it as a great place for...couples who want to spend time alone together or even for a family lunch.More

We only had two night at Macushla House but I could have happily stayed longer. We were met at the gate by the delightful Steven and Jane, who continued to impress me with their attentive service for the remainder of our stay. The room was...lovely, the bed comfortable, the food is divine, and the location was perfect for us as we were primarily interested in visiting the wildlife sanctuaries e.g. Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. If ever I find myself in Nairobi again I will without question stay at Macushla.More

This little hotel is so quirky, it's worth going for lunch just to wander around and admire all the interesting items on display. The rooms are lovely and the breakfast in the morning is delicious. It is a little out of the way but very...handy for visiting the giraffe centre, the elephant orphanage and most of the best shops in Nairobi.More

We stayed 2 times in macushla. It is not the cheapest choice, but the hotel is worth every penny. This small african lodge with its well maintained pool/garden area and its beautiful interior offers a cosy and warm atmosphere. The service is very attentive and...caring and we felt "at home" immediately after a long journey. The meals are of good quality and the kitchen takes care of your individual wishes for food or time of eating. Thank you macushla team. Conny & floMore

This is a nice place for a photo shoot. The house is quaint with nice furniture and good deco and the garden has a rustic touch to it. Other than that I wouldn't recommend it as a restaurant. The food is expensive for no reason...and the service was poor.More
