The food was Very Good and Special!

Salahadeen offers a set menu, which includes three courses with 15 dishes of fresh home-cooked Egyptian food to share. Most dishes consist of vegetables, and the vegetarian options are not cooked in a meat broth as in so many other places. The food is served as if it were an Egyptian home – knives... read more

Great Restaurant at Mara House. The food was very delicious and served very Arabian style. The restaurant décor is also done in a very Egytian/Arabian style and filled with wonderful custom made wooden chairs with beautiful tapestries on the wall

This is not on my scale a "feast" but rather an honest meal that helps beginners like me understand how to enjoy Egyptian food: Two soups are served first, and after that a large plateau of 12 hot and cold mezze and one hot meat dish. Everything was very good but the chicken tagine was particularly tasty. I had tried... More

We had a wonderful evening at Salahadeen @ Mara's house - the food was to die for (many thanks to the chef and kudos to his enthusiasm!)! This was the best dinner experience we had in Luxor, and we strongly recommended it. The place is in a non-touristy area of Luxor - which we found interesting and insightful to see.... More

A 15 course meal of Egyptian food in a real Egyptian decor and ambiance! A memorable night at Mara House restaurant. If you happen to be in Luxor on one of those nights it is offered, don't think twice

Here's one of those hidden gems you might be looking for. First, you get to experience the real Luxor as you by taxi or calesh ride to where the locals live. It's only a five minute ride from the trainstation, but still an experience in itself. I'm sure Mara, who runs this place, can arrange that for you as she... More

As others have noted, the restaurant isn't open every day so it's best to call ahead and make a reservation. That said, the decor, the splendid food and the overall atmosphere make it an unforgettable meal in a marvelous little out-of-the-way neighborhood of Old Luxor. With its splendid soups and salads with marvelous entrees, dinner with Mara at Salahadeen will... More

We were lucky enough to be staying at the Mara House, the sister hotel to Salahadeen, but weren't sure when we arrived if the restaurant would be open. How lucky we were that it was. Mara only opens when she has enough people wanting to eat there, as she's a way from the tourist strip and there's no passing trade... More

Salahadeen not only looks beautiful (decor) but the food is excellent and you can't find most of these local cookings elsewhere. When I heard it is open, had to go there again. Reservation is needed. At first you might think the cost is more than in other restaurants - but - they have lots of different food and i just... More

We tried to eat at this venue but the door was looked and no one answered, the road outside was a building site - we were very disappointed to not be able to try the cuisine :-(

Mara_House, Owner at Salahadeen, responded to this review

I am so sorry we were not open when you called. As per our website it is a must to make an advance reservation. We are not an ordinary restaurant and only cook if and when we have reservations. Even calling on the day before is not sufficient notice. We only do one service when we are open and that... More
