Zooba, the name itself make you pause & think. Once you cross the authentic Egyptian door you're transported from the hustle of Cairo to a place where modernity infused in truly simple Egyptian atmosphere. The place is cozy, the waiters are polite, greets you with a warm smile. Service could be a pit slow some times. Food is just perfect.

I loved the atmosphere, the eggplant was the best I ever had and the Koshary like the home made one . It was phenomenal.

We had breakfast at Zooba - excellent value meal, interesting surroundings. You are seated at a long table alongside other guests - good to make new friends! The food was very enjoyable, mostly traditional local flavours, arriving in packages or on ancient - looking tableware. Good for fussy Westerners worrying about hygiene... I loved the hibiscus tea with cinnamon, in... More

I will just tell what happened : I went to that so called restaurant on a saturday at around 3 and it was not packed at the time. We went through the menu in 5 minutes and waited for the waiter to come. We waited for another 20 minutes but in vain. The restaurant was 50% packed. i started watching... More

I went to the one in Maadi on road 9 actually. Food was very simple but really good. The different salads are really good, I loved the different types of Tameia, especially the one with eggplant. I didn't try the Hawawshi but that seemed like a popular favorite. Juices are good.

I personally didn't get what the buzz was all about. It's clean oriental Egyptian food but it's way overpriced.

So Zooba opens in Zamalek providing a variety of authentic Egyptian food. Personally, I felt cheated after eating there. The food was okay, not the best foul & falafel you can get, and it's extremely overpriced. You're better off grabbing the same food elsewhere and you'll be saving nearly 70% of the price tag.
