So my friend's sister was denied admittance to a place called l'Aubergine because she is veiled!!! A new form of segregation that I refuse... This place just got a personal vendetta with all my friends and family!!!

My friend and I wanted to get a quick drink last night. At the entrance we were stopped by a man in a Pink Shirt. I was dressed conservatively in a long skirt and shirt; he looked me up and down and told both my friend and I that the restaurant was full. As he was saying this, two patrons... More

There are two L'Aubergine, one in Zamalek which is two levels but relatively small with short ceiling. The other one is located in Heliopolis near to Tivoli Dome just a couple of mile from El Thawra St. It is closed, no open air area, the setting and the decor is nice and makes you feel comfortable. It is more a... More

In my LonelyPlanet book the venue is described as candle lit. On the contrary (no candles) the place was noisy, the food was absolutely unspiring, the service slow and unattentive, the selection of drinks limited. I regret havoing chosen it.

It is a very smokey closed space. The food was pretty good with many vegetarian choices. Service can be slow.

Great, lively atmosphere with good music and friendly staff. Very high quality food and affordable prices. Extensive veggie menu but some good meat dishes too. Good for drinks. Only downside a little smokey.

L'Aubergine is primarily for the expat crowd and upper-class Egyptian kids in vibrant Zamalek. They still let people smoke inside. :o( Their varied menu looked exciting though it was a little more expensive. I'm not sure the quality justified the extra cost, however. They add additional 10% service charge + 12% tax + 3.50pp cover charge to your bill, too,... More
