Very welcome surprise in Seoul

Went there the other evening. First of all, its location is great! We had a place near the "window" on the terrace and it is great eating there. Service is a bit depending on who is attending, some speak fluently English, other hardly. The taste of the food is ok, nothing special or outstanding. The presentation is great. They did... More

After a week in Seoul we were looking for something different. Zelen was all we wanted. The food was plentiful and very tasty. The staff were attentive and they we're playing great dinner music. Very relaxing Restaurant in busy, noisy Itaewon

I've called at lease 10times during afternoon to book at this very well reputated restaurant here in Seoul but no reply even if it was saturday afternoon. I've tried again in the very early evening, like 6 to 7 pm but still no one was answering. So when I got to the area, I just popped in with a friend... More

Wow.....at the recommendation of a friend....Zelen was a delightful surprise in providing wonder and flavorful dishes. Servings are plentiful, especially the appetizers, they are a meal all by themselves. Great service and a friendly attentive staff. Zelen is my "go to place" when I'm in Seoul.

I did not really know what to expect. A Bulgarian eatery in downtown Seoul? Went on a friend's recommendation and was amazed. We walked right by the place....on 2nd floor and if you are not looking up you miss the sign. Lots of international cuisine in the area..really alleys off the main drag. We had a reservation which was promptly... More

Zelen is small and often crowded; but for a good reason. Their authentic menu and robust wine list is hard to beat. Don't miss the pork rib appetizer or salmon skewers. Love it. Can't wait to go back!

Had heard about this restaurant from acquaintances so a friend of mine and I decided to check it out. We shared a multi-course dinner for two (we figured we could try more things from the menu that way) and we were not disappointed! The food was just delicious! The service was good, the atmosphere was cozy, and we will definitely... More

Our group had a great dinner at Zelen, a charming Bulgarian restaurant just up some stairs from the street behind the Hamilton Hotel in Itaewon. Good menu posted outside at the bottom of the steps. Other friends had some Bulgarian wine which they loved. I had the salmon and it was lovely. I would recommend it.

Zelen has a decent menu, only three beef dishes and one lamb option. Lots of vegetarian choices though. The food is good, but the prices are more expensive than I would have expected for what I received. Portion size was average and not very flavorful/savory. I'd recommend going to Braai Republic or to a Korean BBQ if you're visiting from... More

Staying in Itaewon

Neighborhood Profile
Itaewon
Neighboring the immense Yongsan American Garrison, Itaewon was once shunned by locals as a seedy, red light district. But within the past few years, Itaewon and its surrounding neighborhoods such as Kyunglidan and Haebangchong have undergone a major revival to quickly become one of Seoul’s hottest areas. Here, trendy international restaurants dot the area alongside hip lounge bars and some of Seoul’s hottest club venues. After dark, Itaewon comes into its own as one of Seoul’s top party scenes. The crowd is a fascinating patchwork of all backgrounds and identities, including a small but thriving Muslim community (centered on Korea’s sole mosque), the LGBT community (with a string of popular bars and clubs), and a wide range of ethnicities and cultures scattered around. Those seeking a quiet respite should head towards the eastern end, in Hannam-dong, which not only has one of Korea’s best art museums, the Leeum Samsung Museum of Art, but plenty of mid-range to upscale restaurants and cafes.
