Lovely

I had heard so many good things about Zelen so decided I had to finally try it. The service was good (some seemed more active and friendly than others) and the food was delicious. The chicken stuffed with cheese and dill pickles was amazing. I will definitely go again.

The food here is great and deserves a higher rating, but the poor quality of the service drags it down to a 3 in my opinion. Why is the service bad? 1. You can't get anybody's attention unless you start waving a menu in the air over your head. 2. We were seated and left to our own devices for... More

The ambience is loosely rustic and old school. V nicely done chicken BBQ and chicken soup ( was the soup of the day). Service is also good and waiters are helpful. Overall experience was very nice and I recommend the place to all.

Centrally located (in the heart of Itaewon), great value, tasty food with excellent service and a wonderful atmosphere. The other Zelen near the river in Hannam-dong is definitely also worth trying for their DELICIOUS lunchtime buffet! Between the two locations we must have gone to Zelen about 30 times during our two years in Korea and we were never, ever... More

Back again to Zelen for a wonderful meal with friends last week. The service, the food and the atmosphere all make for a delightful Bulgarian cuisine to be enjoyed. The Shopska Salad is a must!

I love the food here. It's neither fussy nor complicated, just well cooked and well presented. If you like pork, fresh vegetables and goat's cheese, you'll be happy here. It must surely be the only Bulgarian restaurant in Asia? The service is the main liability. I've been eating here for many years, and I've noticed on recent visits that the... More

Sooo..ordered the recommended appetizers from our waitress...stuffed mushrooms and eggplant. It was basically plain mushrooms with just cheese...no flavor at all. The salad didnt even have a dressing on it. Just lettuce. The eggplant was also jus tomatoe sauce and cheese. Tasted like nothing. Pizza hut could do better. Plus cost and leg for two appetizers and two drinks..which were... More

Zelen is a good find in Seoul. The menu is broad so that any group can find a meal to suit everyone. Comfy atmosphere in the restaurant; staff are nice. I especially enjoyed my garden salad; The tomatoes tasted like they came straight from the garden. The squid dish with risotto was cooked perfectly. My friend tried a hearty meatball... More

Zelen is a great break from the usual pasta, pizza, and steak that you find in most "western" restaurants in Seoul. Zelen offers something different, and I have probably tried everything on the menu from fresh green salads to meat dishes, which were all exciting to the palate. I like the minimal use of salt on the food. This is... More

Staying in Itaewon

Neighborhood Profile
Itaewon
Neighboring the immense Yongsan American Garrison, Itaewon was once shunned by locals as a seedy, red light district. But within the past few years, Itaewon and its surrounding neighborhoods such as Kyunglidan and Haebangchong have undergone a major revival to quickly become one of Seoul’s hottest areas. Here, trendy international restaurants dot the area alongside hip lounge bars and some of Seoul’s hottest club venues. After dark, Itaewon comes into its own as one of Seoul’s top party scenes. The crowd is a fascinating patchwork of all backgrounds and identities, including a small but thriving Muslim community (centered on Korea’s sole mosque), the LGBT community (with a string of popular bars and clubs), and a wide range of ethnicities and cultures scattered around. Those seeking a quiet respite should head towards the eastern end, in Hannam-dong, which not only has one of Korea’s best art museums, the Leeum Samsung Museum of Art, but plenty of mid-range to upscale restaurants and cafes.
