We booked La Chaumiere based on locals recommendations. We were the first patrons of the night, dead quiet, no music. We shared the goats cheese entre of the day which was great. The mains were both very good (lamb shank and beef cheek). The chocolate fondant for dessert was not what we know, it was just dry cake with no... More

We had a great mid week lunch here. The restaurant was packed with locals, and we could see why. The prices were reasonable (we had the two course fixed price option), the quality of the food was excellent, the staff were very helpful. It restored my faith in Noumea restaurants after expensive ordinary meals in the tourist areas.

La Chaumiere offers two courses (ie main plus either starter or dessert) for the same price as one main meal in some of the other restaurants listed here that are round the corner in the Latin Quarter. And it is good -- excellent French cooking with a local tropical flavour. The wine list is interesting and reasonable: not just French... More

I headed the review that way because in Noumea town centre, everything else was close on Sunday, even the Tourist Information Centre! We ate here twice and liked the menu - very French in content and style-, the staff/service and the food. They have a cafe/patisserie on the terrace at the front and the restaurant indoors. Spacious, often busy but... More

We dined here midweek for lunch. There was option of two or three course menu. All food was well prepared and presented - no qualms here. Just beware, lunch is served early so if you arrive at 1.30pm you'll find the kitchen about to close. An enjoyable experience, so La Chaumiere is recommended if you wish to eat in Noumea... More

Exceptionally well run restaurant. We arrived on a rainy Friday lunchtime and could see they were already very busy. They found us a table and the service was very speedy. Lunch dishes were beautiful; well sized portions, rich flavours and a large basket of fresh bread. We do not usually have desert at lunch but we wanted more from this... More

Good food and a pleasant atmosphere along with friendly staff make this a good safe choice for lunch in town. This place is very clean and light and clearly popular with the locals.

The posted menu looked so good as if they had a real chef in the back room instead of someone opening cans and jars and dumping some extremely poor food on a plate and sprinkling it with a smidgen of fresh garnish hoping it would cover over dehydrated mashed potatoes, deadly dull boudin and cloying glop called "caramelized onions Maderia"....
