We dined at the Renaissance Cafe in Assaria and all four of us had great meals. If we were dining in a metropolitan area prices would be 50 to 100 per cent higher . The cafe is located in an old high school gym. You seat upstairs and there are many interesting pictures of the past that you can view... More

This is one of those true gems you don't often find but when you do it is one to remember. We had been 4 or 5 times before but hadn't visited in 3 years. We decided to go back up and take 4 couples with us. We had a nice size coach and a driver as it is about an... More

Assaria is a dot on the map in the middle of Kansas, north of Whichita and south of Salina. Driving by on the interstate or even the local highway, you would never know there was a treasure waiting for you to discover. The restaurant is in a converted gymnasium of the old school. From the outside, you see a quaint... More

We enjoyed a Saturday evening meal with friends at the Renaissance Cafe in Assaria. Located in the small town near Salina, it was an easy drive from the Hutchinson area where we live. It's fun to find these little hidden gems in our state! Built into an old school, the Renaissance is decorated with interesting decor, and having reservations insures... More

Charming rural setting. Small town. Old converted K-12 school gym. Sounds odd, but it works, well. We had a wonderful meal. App was Italian sausage with polenta. Really good. Polenta was perfect and the topping was superb. We each had a salad. Both plates were cleaned. She had house with champagne vinaigrette, I had the Gorgonzola salad. She had balsamic... More

I have been at the Renaissance Cafe several times in the last couple of years and had the chance to try different items from their menue. I have never been disappointed. It was allways a great experience, great food and excellent service. The restaurant is located in an old school building and the dining area overlooks the gymnasium.

I have eaten at the Renaissance Cafe several times. I am a fan. It is housed in an old school building with the dinning room on the upper balcony of the gymnasium. As tacky as that my sound, the interior decor has made this an interesting spot. Wood, brass, and old photos makes for a warm and inviting gathering spot.... More

My husband and I live in the area and we finally made it a point to try the cafe! reservations are basically required (which are easy to do via their website) and NO food substitutions are allowed, but the dishes are divine the way they are designed. You can read more about my experience and see photos from our visit... More

The food here is excellent! The chef does not allow any changes to the menu but he puts a lot of thought and effort into the dishes. Make sure you make a reservation or you probably will not be able to be seated. Seating is limited and it seems like they only allow people to start eating at the start... More
