If I can only suggest one dish, I'd say "sortido de tapas" as a starter. Quite nice atmosphere and decoration. Not that expensive.

It is unfair to expect tapas at a Spanish level but this restaurant makes a decent effort in tapas and paella dishes. The service is great and highly entertaining.

I used to go to this restaurant often when I lived in Asunción over twenty years ago. Then we moved away but have recently moved back. We decided to try it out and see if the food and service were still as good as we remembered. It was. We should have known, a restaurant doesn't stay around for that long... More

The restaurante is located in the downtown area or Centro de Asuncion. The building is old, and the ambience is lovely, when you step into the door you can read proverbs and sayings that are painted all over. I´ve been there for Tapas and Paella. The Sangria is very good. It has a smoking and non-smoking areas.

Sunday morning / early afternoon in many parts of Asuncion is much like visiting a ghost town -- almost every store and restaurant is closed. Taverna Espanola is open and the walk down lonely, crumbling streets will be well worth the effort. At first appearance you may not notice the sign with the restaurants name, but when you walk in... Despite a disappointing experience on my second visit to La Taberna Espanola I decided to give it another chance on my most recent visit too Asuncion, dining there with five friends, most if not all of whom had lived in Spain for varying periods. Bad mistake! Despite the surprisingly authentic decor, reminiscent of a typical Spanish taberna, all resemblances ends... More

Located at the edge of the old town center in a small house on the upstairs floor, the walls are all decorated with Spanish quotes of wisdom, with some rudimentary knowledge of Spanish you will be busy the whole evening deciphering the morsels of wisdom. The ratings in trip advisor were all over the place from the best paella to... More

I had lunch there with a small group of people. Very attractive venue, situated in the upper story of an old house in the downtown area of Asuncion. Walls are decorated with vintage cast iron and ceramic crockery inscribed with traditional Spanish proverbs and witty folk sayings. There are seashells hanging in garlands from the tall ceilings. Don't miss a... More

I ordered a paella with a gazpacho for a starter. While waiting for the gazpacho the waiter brought me some bread and some cream to dip it in. The cream stuff didn't taste anything other than cream. Then came the gazpacho soup. The soup itself was around body temperature, but they had put ice cubes in it to cool it... More

We ate in this restaurant 4 nights running and were never disappointed. Pablo, our host, was a charming and very friendly person indeed. The menu was very varied and the wine and beer list also having choices from Spain and Italy besides those from Paraguay and surrounding South American countries. The Paella, Cordero al Chilindron and the Rabo de Toro... More
