Surprisingly good

Relaxed restaurant with a menu covering several different Asian styles of cooking. ate there four times in a few days in and around La Paz. While nothing was stand-out (except maybe the veggie samosas), and several were unauthentic, they were all well made and flavourful.

There are too few places in La Paz that do amazing Asian cuisine. Its close to the tourist area and worth the 15bs cab ride. The restaurant has two levels each with a different atmosphere, The lower lever is open and light with a gas heater for the colder nights, The upper floor is cosy and intimate, great decor, sitting... Maphrao On is close to the Sopocachi neighborhood in La Paz. It's located in a very interesting Asian style house. The menu features Thai, Chinese, Malaysian, and Indian dishes, and they have many good vegetarian selections. Prices are good for La Paz upper end restaurants and dishes are very ample.

We arrived in La Paz and were hungry for a late lunch. Maphrao On hit the spot! It was a short walk from our hotel. They had a lot of great Thai, Indian and Asian options. It was a nice change of pace after eating Peruvian for weeks. The meals were well flavored and plentiful. Service was great and helpful.... More

Only a couple of blocks from our hotel (Stannum) and behind the big supermarket, but get precise directions otherwise you'll be wandering around the steep back streets asking directions from people who've never heard of it, and finally arriving exhausted as we did (having just arrived from sea-level Iquique). A cosy, rustic exterior, soft music, candles, quite romantic. Garlic bread... More

This restaurant is a very pleasant place to stay. The wooden building seems to be a mountain chalet and the interior design is absolutely warm and refined. The owner speaks fluently in English and the quality of the food is very good and not expensive. I had the fried prawns with chili, the tum soup with squids and shrimps and... More

Initial visit as part of group of 10 left me impressed with food, attention, service, ambient music and décor - certainly value for money and worth a return visit. Second visit was an anti - climax sparked by a large party of Death Bikers and understaffing. Apart from an Indonesian Salad being drowned in a sea of hot stock the... More

Life in La Paz on your own isn't really that easy, even for just a few days. Whilst it never feels terribly unsafe, it always has a little bit of an edge to the hustle and bustle, which is actually part of it's crazy charm. On my second last day there, I needed some good sustenance, and had had the... More

An unbelievably top-notch surprise in La Paz! The ambience is spotless and gorgeous, with tasteful Asian decor and groovy electronic chill music in the background. The service is impeccable and extremely friendly. But put all that aside: THE FOOD IS OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD AMAZING. Granted, I had just traveled 24 hours on a bus from Chile without eating anything when I arrived... More
