These are, in my opinion, the best saltenas in La Paz, and a must have when visiting the city! Saltenas are a kind of empanadas filled with soup (sounds weird, I know, but they are amazing!) The place is pretty clean and tidy, attention is normal and there are even games for kids. This is a great option for a... More

Everyone tells you when you go to La Paz, you need to eat Saltenas. But, for the wary traveler, this may be a scary challenge. There are saltena shops and kiosks everywhere in La Paz but where can a traveler not used to eating Bolivian street food safely go and eat without worrying about getting sick? Here. Done. Check it... Being born and raised in La Paz, the first thing I do when I visit is hunt down saltenas and gorge myself silly. The challenge is finding the best street vendor because they move around town and because I no longer live here. So every trip becomes a treasure hunt. I prefer street vendor saltenas because they tend to be... More

My husband and I turned up at 1pm on a Monday and were able to find a table. We ordered a beef salteña and a vegetarian salteña each with a lemonade. The salteña's were so rich and juicy we absolutely loved them and will be returning tomorrow. Total price came to 29 bolivianos.

After we discovered this little Bolivian gem (on our Banjo Walking tour) we went back every day until we left La Paz. One day the two of us consumed about 10 saltenas in one sitting. Just go. I can't recommend this place enough. Try all of the saltenas because they are all absolutely delicious. Also try the jugo de maracuya... More

This little restaurant one and a half blocks from El Prado specializes in saltenas, better known as empanadas in other countries. These ones are amazing. They even have a vegetarian option! It's only open for breakfast and lunch, so get there early.

I am very picky of where I go to eat salteñas but Pacena never fails to disappoint me. Amazing quality and a very homey environment. Best salteñas ever!!!! I wish I could go back.

If you're familiar with La Paz, you know that there are many chances to sample Salteñas. I've tried my fair share of street salteñas but finally checked out Paceña La Saltena with a friend. I was extremely impressed by the fair prices and great service, and even more impressed by the food! make sure you try the fresh fruit juices... More

Great place for a quick snack or lunch.. Found that 2 per person was about the right amount, and at just around $1USD (5.5Bs) each, I am not complaining. The pollo (chicken) salteña was drier, but still very flavourful, while the carne (beef) had more gravy - a bit messier but nice and spicy! Also service was quick and salteñas... More
