Great appetizer dips

Ask to see the tray with all the appetizer dips- the waiter will explain all the ingredients. Choose two or three to try with their really tasty fresh made breads.

It has been such a fantastic culinary experience for the three of us! The restaurant has good variety of traditional foods, all of them cooked to perfection. We had a selection of dips and salads to start with. The hot and spicy ones were our favourites. Bread was just out of the oven and flavoursome. The main courses (we only... More

This place is a total fraud. They add items to the check expecting you not to notice. We went there with my family, we had one family member who is Turkish but we all looked like tourists. The the food took a long time and we had to ask four times to get a highchair for my child. My main... More

Looks like a few reviewers are getting confused between this restaurant and another. This one is in Fatih near Fatih mosque and is on Fevzi Pasa road, it only has an upstairs terraced seating area and doesn't allow its patrons to sit on the street. That said you must try the iskender here, layers of good quality meat, on bread... More

Just around the corner from the Topkapi palace museum, we expected more of a tourist trap, but instead found very good food, very good prices and super friendly service. We sat outside, as a traffic jam piled up down the street thanks to tour buses and one driver who discourteously left her car double parked in the worse place possible,... More

We were tricked into dining here, since we thought it was ranked #1 on Trip Advisor, but we were wrong. That award goes to a restaurant across the street that also has "Sark Sofrasi" in it. Don't make this mistake! The food here is not nearly as tasty as the vast majority of restaurants in the city. Lamb kabobs were... More

Ba aware that the water they pour to your glass will be included in the price and it's not cheap. Also they re-use plastic bottles (cap is opened and the water is from the filter or tap). Food - it's your usual cheap kebab place just for the price of 5 star restaurants. We were very disappointed with tasteless and... More

My Turkish friend Koray took me to this nice place in Fatih on Sunday Feb. 8, 2015. First I tried to invite him to Tatbak Lokantasi in Nishantashi, but when we came there in the morning it was closed. So, we had to take a metro and finally set up in Ziya Shark Sofrasi 1982. Our goal was to eat... More

We went there on our way to the IslamTechnic Museum. We just sat as we got water. The menue came fast. I iordered a köfte plate. Other people ( non. Tourist) came later and got their food earlier. My tea only came as I re-ordered it. The food was ok, tasty but too small for the money.

Staying in Fener & Balat

Neighborhood Profile
Fener & Balat
This sleepy and rather socially conservative area of Istanbul hosts a small but thriving Jewish community, the patriarchate of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and some of the most beautiful churches and Christian art in the world. Much of what’s most interesting to witness in Fener and Balat sits between the surviving ancient city walls of Constantinople and the serene shores of the Golden Horn. Despite the many splendid sights, historic attractions, stunning vistas, and warm Turkish welcome, the area remains largely unperturbed by the tourist trade that characterizes the atmosphere in nearby Sultanahmet and around the Grand Bazaar. Travelers that like to explore off the beaten track will reap big rewards for making the effort to visit this low-key part of town.
