Very good lamb

I had a lamb with bulgur, which I had to hand pick from a counter since they didn't speak any English. The food was solid, but the prices didn't reflect this as they were still relatively low (compared to the tourist traps in more touristy places). I would recommend to try this place if you're... read more

What a great concept! Ready to eat hot & cold dishes. This was we're all the locals go, breaking their fast during Ramadan. Hunker Bengendi, stuffed cabbage & artichoke to name a few. Good was absolutely delicious!

You are in Istanbul and would like to try traditional Turkish dishes. Here it is: Kanaat Lokantasi with a very very large menu selection. You will not believe what you would see in their display menu so you can pick right away, Bring your cash.

Maybe it was ok for mechants place to eat in its time in old days and that is why it became popular for tourists too. But today no merchant goes there because it really doesnt worth for the price and quality of the food. You will not lose anything if you dont try.

It is one of the oldest and traditional restaurants in the city. Very clean and tasty, it is located in Uskudar, in the Anatolian side. There are frequent motorboats to Uskudar from Besiktas, Kabatas, Karakoy and Eminonu. Also ferries go there from Besiktas and Eminonu. Also it is a 15-20 minutes minibus ride from Kadikoy. Just be careful they don't... More

When I feel like authentic Turkish food in Istanbul - of the non-kebab or fish variety, then I usually go to either the 'Haci Abdullah' in Beyoglu, the 'Ciya' in Kadiköy or the 'Kanaat' in Üsküdar. The 'Kanaat' is a restaurant that exists since 1933 and already from its whole atmosphere it doesn't feel like a place to linger as... More

If you are on asian side of istanbul , (uskudar) , it can be a very big mistake to not goo there . You can really test the real Ottoman cuisine varieties. I recommend as a main dish :dolma, kadinbudu kofte , piyaz, and as a desert firin sutlac or kaymakli ekmek kadayifi. Prices are very reasonable.

The food varied from OK to awful, the waiters weren't polite and paid more attention to their smartphone than to their guests. The atmosphere is, well, non-existent. Walk by and don't regret coming here. The toilets are clean, which bodes well for their sense of hygiene.

Staying in Uskudar

Neighborhood Profile
Uskudar
Home to more than half a million residents, Uskudar on the Asian side of the Bosphorus is one of Istanbul’s most densely populated neighborhoods. Once a Greek colony, later a haven for people from across the Mediterranean and the Middle East, this gateway to Asia has been an active and diverse hub for eons. Still, visitors to Uskudar are often more overcome by its myriad treasures than by its many thousand residents. And with fairytale settings such as the “Maiden’s Tower” as well as grand examples of Ottoman Era architecture, plenty of parks, a gorgeous and lengthy coastline, and some of Turkey’s holiest sites, there’s no end to the sightseeing possibilities. Easily reached from the city’s European shores via a steady network of ferries, time spent in Uskudar reveals a “real life” Istanbul that many who experience find extremely fascinating.
