We stayed in Istanbul for four months and Ciya was the place I most enjoyed eating. It is very casual and low on atmosphere, but the food is always changing, always interesting and always really delicious. It's daunting, especially for non-Turkish speakers, because there is no menu and the strategy for getting your food was completely new to me, but... More

The restaurant serves dishes that are traditionally cooked in local homes. Very authentic Turkish food, unlike the usual kebabs and such that are found in every restaurant in Istanbul. The portion are small enough for a couple to order at least four to five dishes. Must try the pastry baked rice, stewed vegetables, thin chilli (local version) pizza, seasonal peach... More

I have visited Istanbul for years, and never quite made it to Ciya, on the Asian side. The opportunity presented itself, so, off I went. There are three restaurants, the Ciya Sofrasi being the most traditional, and does not serve alcohol. I read their website, English version, and found the weekly specials appealing, and chose accordingly on my arrival. The... More

I have been many times to the Ciya despite my reservations as it is one of the few places of her kind in Kadiköy. However, the dishes, which are usually overcooked, now begin tasting all similar; different aromas and flavours are difficult to detect. It has a good variety of dishes in the menu but many are disappointingly dull. It... More

We found Ciya on the recommendation of the book provided on our food tour (see other review). Places in the book had really been spot-on, so I expected a lot from this restaurant. It ended up being fine, but really just average. The food was solid, no doubt. But I didn't find it taste any better than anywhere else, nor... More

If you have already tried the street foods, it's time to try ottomon style cuisine in a restaurant located on Asian side of the city. Great mezzes, food menu changes weekly however the kebap menu remains mostly unchanged. Order lamb iskender somehow not mentioned on the menu, great dish.

One of the best restaurants in Turkey. Very authentic, traditional food. Hard to choose what to eat :) I suggest you to not to have breakfast and go straight to the restaurant for lunch. Save place for the desert, "ramazan tatlisi"
