Amazing interior design, lovely menu unfortunately staff is really grumpy. That can turn a beautiful cozy atmosphere into an uncomfortable place. In the end of our meals i was a little afraid to ask for count:(

Turkish food is great, but not very veggie friendly and lacks a bit of spice that I am used to. Zencefil had a lovely menu, attentive but not overbearing service, and a cute little courtyard to sit in. In Taksim, it was good to get a bit of a quiet spot. I would go here all the time if I... More

As a committed carnivore, I had to share our experience of eating out at Zencefil in Istanbul. The flavours of all our dishes (we were a party of five, only two of whom are vegetarians) were wonderful and we left the restaurant having consumed as much as we would in a non veggie venue. It was just magnificent. Well done.... More

Hit and miss. Ordered 4 dishes in total, 2 of them were pretty bad, way overpriced. Would not recommend the lentil patties as much as you are pushed to order it

Zencefil has a charming ambience, tiny portion sizes, and the most aggressive waiters I've ever come across. I got the quiche last night, and it tasted fine, except that it was a tiny slice - not what you'd expect for how much you're paying! What's worse, we got charged for bread, which is not at all typical in Istanbul. The... More

Food was okay, nothing to rave about. Typical ev yemeği (home-cooked style) vegetable meals at triple the cost. Restaurant was cute, but pretty empty. Our waiter automatically brought us a small bread basket which we picked out of. I've lived in Istanbul 5 years now, and I was shocked when the bill came and saw they were charging us for... More

After reading good reviews about this place in the Lonely Planet we ventured up into this district late one night to try it out. We fancied a hot healthy vegetable based meal and then back to our hotel to bed. We ordered the Aegean Stew thinking it would be something like the pottery kebabs we had had throughout our trip.... Vegetarian restaurants in Istanbul are rare, and Zencefil was highly rated in our guide book, so we went to Zencefil with high hopes. We went once, for lunch, and sat in the lovely outdoor area. While there were a lot of vegetarian options, they also offered chicken (?!). I had an omelet and my friend had a salad--neither one was... More

Went here on guide book recommendation - the most average meal we've had in a while. Terrible service, almost like they don't want you there. Almost any other restaurant in Istanbul would be better. Seriously don't bother.
