Tarihi Cesme Restaurant is located in the historical heart of Istanbul on the half-island of Eminonu very near to the big sights like the little Aya Sofya mosque and the old Sokullu baths. The restaurant has three storeys and a romantic garden with a view on the centuries old fountain and the picturesque streets. On the menu you’ll find the traditional Turkish dishes; hot as well as cold food. Off course all the kebaps are served, but the restaurant also serves fresh fish, pides and one should really try the house speciality: Cesme kebap. We sat out in the outdoor patio which was wonderful. Even though we made the reservation for dinner through Tripadvisor website, the restaurant had no idea of what we were talking about. But they were friendly and service was good. We had potato croquette and yogurt dip for appetizer. Both were excellent. Aldana kebab was good. They offer you free... More

We ate here last night. We'd spent the day walking and we were tired and hungry. The manager showed us a menu board and when I saw lamb chops I was ready to sit down. Vern chose a meat saute casserole covered with their divine bread with toasted sesame seeds. I tried it and loved it.My 3 chops were from... More

My daughter and I ate at this restaurant for 3 of our 5 evenings in Instanbul, had something different each night and every meal was fantastic. Excellent service and highly recommend this restaurant! Great Turkish food.

Food is really good (iskender kebap and spicy tomato dip were our favourite of the two nights we ate there), services is great (they remembered us from the night before, free tea after dinner, very friendly), and the prices are reasonable. The fresh bread is amazing! Really enjoyed eating here!

First day of our stay I looked for a place with reasonable prices and nearer of the hotel. Decided to try food at Tarihi Cesme restaurant. Delicious food with good prices, amazing Apple Tea. Friendly stuff with perfect service and the music makes relaxing atmosphere. So it was our favorite dinner place until end of our Istanbul trip. I would... More

First place we ate in Instanbul and still our favourite. The staff are magnificent - very friendly and welcoming. Food is reasonably priced considering the quality and service - we were there for hours and had an entree, two mains, three large beers and two apple teas for about 75 Lira. Stoked. Always got a wave and smile from the... More

It is no longer "of the beaten track", but they have kept their low prices. I must sat I was amazed by the service there. The waiters are quick, and very polite, without being annoying or pushy. We had great Pide(tyrkish pizza), awesome casserole and beer/vine for 3 people. It came to 80tl. For Scandinavias, be aware they cant take... More

We ate here twice as it was just across the street from our hotel. Inside/outside seating on a street that looks like a backstreet but is fairly busy. Food was authentic Turkish and very tasty. After one dinner there we returned the next night to have different dishes. The Cesme Special and the eggplant salad were very good.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
