Mediocre Turkish restaurant in nice area

Food and drinks were okay, service quite confused, but still we had a great time in a busy restaurant in a great party area just off the Taxim

We were here with two turkish friends from Istanbul. They come very often to this restaurant. We chose 4 mezzes and a mixed lamb grill. It was delicious. We drank raki as local people. 4 people bill was 100€. Not cheap but acceptable. the restaurant is in a secondary street very close to Galata tower in the pedestrian area. Reservation... More

So many restaurants in Istanbul collect customers (mostly tourists) by asking "Where are you from" or "Please, let me show you the menu" or "Would you like to sit inside or outside", anything to distinguish themselves from many others of similar quality. Refik is NOT one of these restaurants, as a glance at any table serving its customers will prove--locals... More

An Istanbul institution that lives up to its reputation, this meyhane is a place to go with your friends for an evening of raki and meze rather then a formal restaurant. It does what it says on the tin. The mezes are presented to you on a tray so no need to decipher the menu. They are fresh and delicious... More

Refik is one of Istanbul's oldest and best-known meyhanes opened by Refik Aslan. Here yoy finf the best mezes from the ottoman period. The restaurant is very centrally located, the food is good and the environment is typical, authentic, traditional.

in a lively area of Istanbul not far off Istiklal, Refik was a great find. Perhaps the most tender and succulent chicken i have ever tasted. Delicious mezzes - cacik, iman baylildi - and delicious entrees - shish kebab and mixed grill. friendly staff, would highly recommend for authentic Turkish food!

Great food, the starters were all wonderful. Seaweed salad was good, squid was so tender, great flavours. Main course sea bream was great, melted in the mouth.

Nothing exceptional about Refik. We read a review and decided to go there but were underwhelmed by the food. Definitely on the pricier side

Beyoglu is (or better: was) famous for its 'meyhane's', places where one went for raki or wine and meze and all evening discussions, once popular with cigarette-smoking intellectuals and artists. They were concentrated near the Balikpazari-fishmarket and the Tünel, especially around Asmalimescid Street. And the best and most popular meyhane's were the one's run by a strong and engaging personality,... More

Recommended in Rough Guide Istanbul. Don't rush to this place/ I suspect they aren't trying because they know they're listed. Alright is all I can say about this place.

Staying in Beyoglu

Neighborhood Profile
Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.
