The food is ok, but you have tu check your bill. Unfortunately, 10 Lira extra for bread and water (which is included in other restaurants in Istanbul) and a so-called 10%-government-tax were added to our bill. This tax doesn't exist in Turkey. We discussed with the waiter and then decided to give no tip as it was charged with the... More

... good relaxed vibe. Mix of locals and tourists. Meze were fine. We ate enough without need for mains. Tasty and good variety - little mackerel were amazing, good stuffed eggplant, divine fresh cheese for dessert... tasted like grass. Service improved as dinner went on.

Refik, The owner, has passed away a few years ago. However, the only change after him is missing of "kuzu sarma" which was my and many other's favorite in here. I try to visit this place each time I come to İstanbul. Never disappointed. Best taste each time is almost guarantee if you can find a table, sometimes a seat.... More

We fancied on the last night of our stay, venturing into the new town for dinner and were recommended this restaurant by the hotel. Never, have I walked out of a restaurant before, but this one - we did. It is obviously a very popular restaurant amongst locals - the restaurant was full - but only of locals. The service... More

I was part of a group of 10 people havong dinner at Refik. The food was really good (I had lamb chops, but friends who had fish also confirmed it). The service was quite fast and kind, the location is really pictoresque and the place itself looks like a typical restaurant, with old posters on the walls. The onl problem... More

With the easing of requirements to display images of the grand old man in retail locations, the current administration has given me a new rule on which to judge lokantas: don't go into one without a prominent Ataturk portrait. Refik proudly displays theirs with a great collection of ephemera from their years in business. We were seated upstairs with a... More

Our hotel recommended Refik for dinner - really disappointing. Their is no ambiance and the food is mediocre at best. With so many places to eat in this part of Istanbul, I would skip it.

What an unpretentious but fabulous place this is. The walls are adorned with pictures and newspaper clippings re the owner and the left leaning cognoscenti of Istanbul over several decades. The welcome is warm. The food.......AAAAHHHHHH We had gorgeous Meze's (especially the giant white beans, the green beans, the tarama and the hot shrimps. Then the very best place of... More

Was busy on a Friday night but poor quality food with very small portions which were expensive. Did not have some of the dishes that we ordered left and brought us something else without asking us

After reading about Meyhane we decided to venture up to Beyoğlu on our 3rd night in Istanbul. Food & wine was overpriced, mezze were poor & staff were disinterested. Turned out to be our most expensive meal in istanbul at 190 TL, which only included a bottle of wine. The area seemed buzzing on a sat night and full of... More
