Cheap and Cheerful

Looking for a quick and tasty meal, then look no further than The Pudding Shop. The name may seem a bit odd but in the 60s it was THE place to be seen and eat, according to the menu blurb. Certainly the food was tasty, don't worry about the menu, just look at their food on display and choose -... read more

Food left under heater all day. My son got food poisoning and was badly ill next morning. Dreadful - no excuses - this place should be closed down. Everywhere else we ate in Istanbul was good and some very good.

This place was recommended by our tour guide. The food was ok but the prices were ridiculous. The average quick lunch price in Sultan Ahmet is about 10tl. I paid 33.50tl for one meal. And it was average.

This restaurant used by tour guides is a tourist trap. We were ushered in by our tour guide, food is very average canteen style lacking flavour. Every customer led in by tour operator. Would not recommend.

Okay, food here is just so and so, looking like Turkish cuisine adapted for Europeans. But it's quite chip, fast and very near Alta Sofya and Blue Mosquee. Moreover, this place is nice, with an interesting history: hippies used to stop here while doing Silk Road. It's interesting to see how this place has changed... Last but not least: they... More

If you are looking for a place that has a wide variety of typical Turkish food, look no further. The selection of pre-made cafeteria-style dishes is dizzying, but with so many customers, new trays fresh from the kitchen replace the old ones quickly. There are quite a few puddings for dessert, but make sure you try the nut pudding or... More

We visited the Pudding Shop with our guide, Lale, who has been eating at the Pudding Shop since she was a child. The staff was very helpful to us as we tried to figure out what to eat. The food was very good and portions were plentiful. I loved the eggplant dishes especially.

The staff was a bit overwhelming. While they gave you a large quantity of food it was just OK. I would avoid it if it was the only choice, but I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to eat there.

I was introduced to the Pudding Shop on 15th June 2015 and a truly great experience. Wonderful food, friendly staff, and lots of character. I was back in Istanbul 3 weeks later and headed back to the Pudding Shop for lunch. This time I left room for the deserts! Highly recommended, I will return!

Directly across the street from the Blue Mosque and Cistern is The Pudding Shop, the restaurant our guide, Lali has chosen for lunch. Apparently it’s very famous having been here since the 1960s, the service extremely cordial, and the food is plentiful and very good. Lali’s sampler plate suggestion is perfect.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
