Lunch Break at Lale Resturant - the pudding shop. A unexpected find.

As you walk into the restaurant you see pictures of different meals to pick from ( made it easy), we lined up and ordered-paid. They gave us a A4 information sheet that read: "Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives...you are now lying in the soli of a friendly country. Therefore... read more

The food was no different to the myriad of restaurants that had the same selections displayed in their windows. Porion size was medium & the flavours not overly exciting. Maybe living on the memories of the good old days?

One of the places I regularly return to with friends in Istanbul is the 'Pudding Shop' for its historical connections. And as in the 'Orient Express'-restaurant a lot of imagination is required to recreate a once fascinating past. Here it is the days of the Hippies in the late 60ies, early 70ies, when there were not many tourists in Istanbul.... More

Quite good for the price ... more like a cafeteria than a restaurant. Food basic and nice ("safe water" used so you wont get sick). Prices OK

We had a nice meal here, Chicken Shish and Iskender Kebab but it's nothing special. Free wifi and reasonable prices in a tourist hotspot location. There are hundreds of similar places.

Nothing to be expected. A place with a history which has ended long ago and which is trying to survive exploiting it. The food is quite mediocre. Lamb chops are smelly of an old lamb and breakfast is primitive. Place for tourists who wants to have tourist food for a tourist price

We had lunch in the Pudding Shop as part of a tour group but each of us ordered our own meal, they had a great selection for items (veg and non veg) to chose from that it will very hard to not over order. The wait staff was friendly and patience for whose that had questions in english. The restaurant... More

We stopped in at the pudding shop for an early breakfast. I don't know if it was because they were just opening, or if it was what you should expect as their standard, but service was very slow - we were given menus after waiting for 15 mins and then it took even longer to get someone to take our... You really have to have lunch at the Pudding Shop in Sultanahmet - classic turkish dishes served hot, fresh and fast. If you have ever seen the film, Midnight Express, this place was where the opening scene took place. A hot-spot for travellers for decades now, the current restaurant is owned and operated by the same family with a loyal... More

Our guide introduced us to this fantastic place. We walked in from a cold and wet day and were greated with outrageous smells of the huge choice of dishes being prepared. A rainbow of colours and a busy happy friendly atmosphere. We dined upstairs which was quieter. Our food and drinks were delivered swiftly by curteous friendly staff and we... More
