Great place for a cheap lunch or dinner after sightseeing

Had lunch here mid way through a day seeing the sights in Sultanahmet. Order what you like from the buffet... (Self service style). Highly recommend the stuffed eggplant. Home style cooking made with love. There is seating upstairs. Get the staff to carry your trays of food up there for you... read more

A good combo of local Turkish cuisine plus some western meal options. Friendly staff, located on the light-rail line, just down the street from one of the entrances to Sultanhmet Sq

We were greeted on entry to choose our food from the larges display cabinets on offer that day. We had very limited time due to a tight schedule and the food we ordered arrived within minutes. The food was very tasty and wholesome. The bill was produced promptly which enabled us to leave in good time for the next part... More

This is an old simple restaurant with great food and service. We returned here several times for lunch. Former 60's hippie hangout that continues to provide good eats.

Three of us went in for a meal. After choosing our food, while being bossed about by the manager, we were told to go upstairs and wait for our food. There were tables available on the ground floor, which is where we wanted to sit, but the guy insisted we went upstairs. The food was really good, but our experience... More

Our tour guide brought us here at the height of lunch rush. Pure chaos. Luckily we had her to maneuver us into an open place at a table upstairs and help us with the food choices. The spiral like staircase going up was precarious and not recommended for older people. I had a type of Turkish lasagna which I liked,... More

Title says it all really, but it was first of all a bit hasty and rushed as we got there just as the lunchtime rush exploded and the waiter 'hurried us up a bit' in getting us to order, which normally I'd take exception to, but when 50 people come in at once you can't blame him for getting a... Perfect spot for local dishes. Very nostalgic for all the diners who returned and will return who were here in the 60's and 70's

This restaurant is very close to the Topkapi palace complex and so is very popular with tour guides, and since it is one of only a very few restaurants in the area that serves alcohol, it is very popular indeed. We had fish, mezze and kebabs, and while the mezze and kebab were okay, the fish was quite good. The... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
