I reserved a table by email and received a confirmation stating that they were looking forward to welcoming us to the restaurant. Imagine my surprise and extreme annoyance to discover they were closed for refurbishment when we arrived. I was even more cross to discover that they had been closed at the time of accepting my reservation. Why accept my... More

I have just returned from a very enjoyable week in Istanbul but the thing that annoyed me the most was despite receiving an e mail confirmation of my reservation the Sarnic is closed. From reading previous reviews they must have known this when they replied to me. I only booked the table on 17 September for 4 October. Most disappointing... More

- located at the top of the hill in a narrow street immediately behind Hagia Sophia - more than thousand years ago the location was a cistern; until recently it was used as a car repair shop - when I reserved a table I already thought: maybe that will be a very touristy restaurant - and it absolutely is! I... More

I'm not disappointed. I'm not sorry. I'm ANGRY!! Together with five guests I went by taxi to Sarnic last Saturday evening in order to celebrate my wedding day. Two months before, back in Denmark, I booked a table and received the restaurant's confirmation. But the intrance door was closed! The doorstep was dirty. There was no sign with information about... I gave this restaurant one star only because of the pictures you can see online. It looks very nice, but I wouldn't know, as it is currently closed for renovations (per the police officer I asked out front, has been for ~2 months) however there is NO mention of this on their website, and when I made a reservation for... The setting is gorgeous, as far as the historical context, decor and live musicians. Shame it's being wasted on such a kitchen and serviced so poorly. Filet Roquefort on the menu effectively translates into just-edible steak with mayo on the side. Pepper Steak is an extra mediocre mushroom steak, made with just-edible meat as well. Waiter extra obnoxious, though "polite."... More

We once walked past the windows of this restaurant and thought it looked beautiful. So we booked and took our 2 children, over all the restaurabt has one major thing going for it, the venue itself. An old cistern that is 1000 years old, high arched ceilings and cast iron chandeliers. Very beautiful. But the food is distinctly average, the... More

When else will you have the opportunity to eat in a 1500 year old Roman cistern? Came across this place early in the day and made a reservation for dinner. Truly amazing atmosphere. Food was not the best I've ever had, but I would still go back just to sit and enjoy it. Order dessert and coffee so you can... More

Having read reviews on Tripadvisor we booked this restaurant expecting wonderful atmosphere but mediocre food.......... boy, did we get a surprise. Yes, the atmosphere was amazing, but so too was our meal!! Each course was truly delicious. We shared a platter of assorted meses to start, then my partner had lamb and I had fillet steak for mains. We shared... More

After a few failed attempts to find somewhere for dinner we headed to Sarnic on the recommendation of a Wanderlust article. Another wow moment on our Minimoon to istanbul as we walked into the Cistern Tavern of Sarnic. It was late but we were served well, and the food was fabulous. Make this a must visit.
