Ate at this restaurant on our first night in Istanbul. We were drawn in by a seemingly friendly waiter and seated. They immediately brought out bread and water without asking. Upon placing our orders we turned down the "salad", the waiter insisted that we try the salad and implied that we try it, went and ordered it himself and brought... More

Boring food, OK (lamb shank completely unseasoned). But when the bill came we were surprised by a charge for sitting down, and items we didn't order (instead of items we DID order). The waiter tried to tell us it didn't matter, that the items we were charged for cost the same as the items we ordered, but they were actually... More

Boring food, OK. But when our bill came we were surprised to discover a charge to sit down, and items we didn't order replacing items we did order. Our waiter explained that the unordered items cost the same, so it didn't matter, but the items we ordered actually were cheaper than the items on our bill. For what we ordered,... More

Just down the side street across from the Grand Bazaar. Stroll down this street at dinnertime, you'll be called out to from all sides, with menus thrust at you. Sar is no exception. Stepping inside, you can see under a glass display case exactly what they will cook up for you: Different chicken Shish on a spit, Spicey or regular... More

Like all big cities, Istanbul has plenty of restaurants located right next to the tourist attractions. And of course you generally pay more than reasonable, if you don't take care. However, if you are willing to walk just 100 m off the main street, then the quality of food can be better and the pricess half or less. Sar Restaurant... More

This is a fantastic place for lunch and snacks during the day. Tasty food, big portions and friendly service. Don't confuse it with the bigger Sar restaurant next to the tram stop around the corner. This one is far superior.

This is inexpensive, excellent food. We each had a different meal so that we could taste and enjoy. It is just down from the tram stop Beyazit. They are unlicensed, as are so many establishments in the city. I loved their portions are also very generous!

We found this restaurant based on a review in our Day By Day book. It was indeed inexpensive and good. During our stay in Istanbul we had very bad luck with meat; generally it was very dry and tough, but here it was great. I got the Iskender kebab and my wife got a Döner plate. Both were very good...
