Description: This fancy pricey restaurant is located right next to Pantocrator Church...
This fancy pricey restaurant is located right next to Pantocrator Church (Zeyrek Mosque). It has a wonderful view to the East and the Suleymaniye Mosque, and is probably very popular with some tourists. However the service is truly awful. No matter how well you are dressed, if you have small backpack you are not treated with respect. Let's warn our readers about this bad restaurant. A much better choice is the very authentic, welcoming, and very reasonably priced restaurant one block further down the street called Zeyrek Cafe. What a contrast, and what a wonderful find. Its location in the historic Zeyrek District makes it a great place to enjoy a very tasty meal served by friendly staff. I highly recommend Zeyrek Cafe instead of Zeyrekhane Restaurant.

Delicious real Turkish cuisine in between your visit of the most important mosques

The menu will give you a sense of what real Turkish meals are other than kebaps. You can also have vegetarian meals too. For me one of the best indicators of a good restaurant is the tea and turkish coffee served. Both of them should felt you as if you are at home. The decoratiın is also delicate... read more

The Location is very charming and Atmosphere is very Ottoman. We have been there for breakfast on sunday. Nobody was there ( it was a sign I guess how breakfast is bad) when we arrived a guy opened our car door and lead us to restaurant which made us feel uncomfortable. Inside was amazing they arranged our table nicely. Breakfast... More

Visited for breakfast with great expectations since the place is advertised as an Ottoman cuisine. However, we were disappointed as the quality of breakfast plate was really poor and quite expensive (38tl for a very simple plate! I guess 5tl for the food and 33tl for the atmosphere). On the other hand service was good and the restaurant has quite... More

Pricey yes... but it is an oasis after a long and dusty walk in the old quarter. Managed by Divan group it is a good place to take a breather. Wish management would be better though, many of the wonderful authentic features have not been well maintain ed.

This old monastery was converted to an first Ottoman school in Istanbul and now a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The views of Istanbul are fantastic from its elevated position along the golden horn. It is difficult to find, even for the local taxi drivers but worth the effort. We had Saturday morning brunch on the outdoor patio. Definitely... More

Literally u need a map to get there, however when u r in it can only be described as Amazing. The view of the Suleimany Mosque and the Bosporus is stunning. The food is also unique and delicious. Mehmet was our waiter, a great guy with a smiley face. The prices are reasonable for such food and service.

I visited the restaurant for the second time. This time, in spring. I can say that it is certainly more joyous to seat outside. The view is perfect "Corne D'or" You seat within the history and have a quite good food. The plates are not very big but they serve some traditional Turkish tastes.

Staying in Fener & Balat

Neighborhood Profile
Fener & Balat
This sleepy and rather socially conservative area of Istanbul hosts a small but thriving Jewish community, the patriarchate of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and some of the most beautiful churches and Christian art in the world. Much of what’s most interesting to witness in Fener and Balat sits between the surviving ancient city walls of Constantinople and the serene shores of the Golden Horn. Despite the many splendid sights, historic attractions, stunning vistas, and warm Turkish welcome, the area remains largely unperturbed by the tourist trade that characterizes the atmosphere in nearby Sultanahmet and around the Grand Bazaar. Travelers that like to explore off the beaten track will reap big rewards for making the effort to visit this low-key part of town.
