Solid hearty meals. Lots of kebab on plate options. Good atmosphere beside a main road an a small alley of restaurants. Near to Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, and Grand Bazaar. A few comments below say that it's good for people watching as well, fully agree.

The charming staff is what convinced us to try (and trust me I detest touters), and of course the tripadvisor sticker recommending it. Very amusing waiter made us chuckle and he gave good advice on what we should try off the menu. The location was excellent for people watching. But the food was just average. My family were all happy... More

We stopped at Faros on our first night in Istanbul because one of the managers convinced us to sit down and grab a bite. We had two kebab dishes and two glasses of wine. Everything was average; nothing was bad by any stretch of the imagination, but nothing was great either. The restaurant is located at the end of a... More

We had a nice meal here, good mezze platter and bread to start, Lamb shish and steak, then ice cream. Meat a little chewy, but all very tasty. Only gripe, husband asked for a Turkish Brandy to go with coffee, was given Hennessy (didn't know until bill came) Perhaps waiter misunderstood (?) 40tl for brandy(more expensive than my main course)

Try the pepper steak and the salmon. Both are delicious, and I'd say the pepper steak is the best in town. The restaurant has free wifi, and they have placed the password on the salt shakers on the tables. The wait staff is very helpful and it's sure that one of them speaks your language!

The area is so touristy so as soon as I saw the trip advisor excellence award, I went in. It was a bit pricey, 160 lira for the sultan dish and the apricot lamb stew, but that was plenty to feed our family of 4. Service was great, and the waiters joked around with my young daughter. It was fine... More

We like it so much that we went there several times! We walked from the grand bazaar and came back from our hotel, you also can get here walking from the Blue Mosque or Haga Sophia. Really good food! I love pizza here! Service was also good, and they have a nice terrace, and they let me use their wifi... More

We were struggling for decent food options in Istanbul and decided to dine in at the Faros Restaurant. The restaurant was clean and the food was good, especially the Pizza's and Calzone's which were just fabulous. As an added bonus we received a 15% discount as we were staying at the Faros Hotel upstairs. Couldn't go wrong!

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
