Simple food that is simply delicious.

My tour guide brought me here for lunch. The food really is excellent even if rather simple. Getting the basics right is how all good food begins. Having to wait at the door to get in for a seat is mildly annoying but is testament to the popularity of this place. The prices also reflect the... read more

After visiting many of the nearby sights our friend from Istanbul suggested we have lunch at a restaurant favored by locals that's been in existence since 1922, Sultanahmet Koftecisi, best known for their meatballs and bean salad. These meatballs were not round as we expected, but more like a flatten sausage link. We ordered meatballs, bean salad and the traditional... More

This was the place where I first ate in Istanbul, being just a couple of steps away from the Basilica Cistern and the Hagia Sophia. The location was perfect and the service very good. I found the food good, but after eating in other places around Istanbul I realized that you can find much better.

Came here for lunch after a friend recommended it. The meatballs were just average and the veggies didn't add much to the sandwich. We did like the hot sauce and the pickled peppers but that still didn't justify the premium prices (15 lira for a sandwich with 5 meatballs). Next time just skip and get a doner. Location is convenient... More

Join the locals at this great institute just up from Sultanahmet Square. See why the locals love it! A quick lunchtime shish with a soft drink for two, at about £10!

Not sure why LP is rating this place so low. This place is a hidden gem for those that like great hole in the wall restaurants. The food is cheap and good, the place is clean, and service is good. The menu is simple in a good way. We had ayran, rice, bean salad (we had a special one with... More

We had been told about this place many times before we visited Istanbul so it was a must. 6 of us visited the restaurant one evening and although the restaurant had a queue we were seated quickly . The menu is very basic and straight forward.... koftes and beans but that's the beauty of this place. A basket of bread... More

I came here for lunch based on recommendations I'd seen in the forums, and it was in line with my expectations. I was seated quickly and the service was prompt and friendly, without ever seeming like there was any pressure to move me or any other customers through. I had the kofte with rice and a coke with some pudding... More
