Excellent food close to Sultanahmet

We ate here our first night in Istanbul based on a recommendation from the Telegraph. We shared the Testi Kebab - a dish that is cooked in a sealed clay pot which is then opened at your table with great theatrical style. The food was excellent as was the service. My friends and I have been in Istanbul for two weeks, and as we ate out twice every day, we got a feel for where the quality food was to be found. Amedros is absolutely at the top of my list. When we were tired of trying new places, we'd always come back here for a consistently exceptional meal. From... More

We visited Amedros twice for 5 days of our staying in Istanbul. It is a lovely place for dinner in the heart of old city. The staff was exeptionally attentive. Wine list not wide, but interesting. The food was great. "Kappadokia" lamb in special pepper sauce is highly recommended!

The bread and olives are the first items that arrive to your table and from the first taste you know you are in for a treat. The two of us shared a generous lamb dish, served in a clay pot, which was full of subtle spice flavours, laden with apricots, figs and almonds accompanied with rice - (the rice portion... More

We had shrimps in a casserole as starter and grilled sea bass as main course. The plates looked great and the food was tasty. Good service

In the midst of the tourist filled old town, Amedros was a true oasis. For a start the menu didn't have photos of the food, a refreshing change from all it's neighbours. A cosy fire inside the immaculate restaurant, an inspiring menu and fantastic service made for a wonderful evening. The shrimp casserole and octopus salad starters were delicious and... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
