Description: Matbah – Ottoman Palace CuisineThe Ottoman Empire has reigned over the huge lands for centuries and coexisted with many nations and cultures. By synthesizing all the acquainted cultures in order to produce a unique taste of its own, through the time, the Ottomans have enriched the Ottoman Cuisine. Several cuisines majorly deriving from Middle Asia, the Balkans, the Middle East and the Europe are the main contributors to the Ottoman Cuisine. This cuisine has prevailed mostly in the kitchens of the Ottoman Palace and therefore, the palace has turned out to be a unique place in order to grasp its tastes completely. Unfortunately, since the guilds of the palace cooks did keep their recipes as professional secrets, this magnificent cuisine has lost some of its unique tastes nowadays. After long and professional researches conducted at the palace libraries, through the books and documents written by palace historians and guild of cooks (who had preferred to share their experiences instead of keeping them as secrets) we, Matbah Restaurant, benefited from all these documents and recipes to prepare a selective and unique menu containing of twenty seven outstanding dishes from Matbah-ı Beray-i (Kitchen of Sultan’s Palace) for your exclusive taste. All dishes served are tested, improved and adapted to the measure which we do use nowadays. Besides, we have noted all the utmost details regarding with the Ottoman-style cooking. After an exquisite exercise and efforts, the stunning recipes have been completed and adjoined to our selective menu. The Ottoman grandeur and hospitality prevailing at “Matbah” is welcoming exclusive guests and gourmets who do delight in the comfort of a vibrant ambiance at different seasons throughout the year. We are more than willing to serve your distinguished agency and special group with the selective menu which we prepared from the stunning recipes.Hope you will enjoy your meal at Matbah.

Perfect concept for a restaurant so close to Topkapi Palace. Many of the dishes are from historical Ottoman cuisine - a smart establishment - excellent service. Prices are not cheap but given the standard of cuisine and sevice, excellent value for money. If one is any kind of foodie it is worth looking for - we came on it by... More

We visited on our first night of a long weekend. Booked online from the Uk. It probably wasn't necessary to reserve but the restaurant was busy - mainly Turkish customers. Seated on the upper level - away from two large parties. Lovely setting. Great food. I had melon with a spicy meat filling - absolutely different to anything else I've... More

We were staying at the Ottoman Hotel Imperial and decided to try the in-house restaurant. The food was very good and the view was great. The staff was largely attentive although they seemed slightly distracted by preparing for the expected influx of folks after the Ramadan fast was broken for the day, which was understandable. In all, a great experience.

This restaurant was recommended to us as serving Ottoman food dishes from the 15-17 centuries (although not exclusively). It didn't disappoint. Location is good, service excellent, and cuisine different and interesting. Good wine list and helpful suggestions from the staff rounded out a great night. Best to book. We didn't and got in by the skin of our teeth thanks... More

This restaurant has the most interesting menu. The recipes are very old and original to the palace. They staff is attentive, not over bearing, and you can sit outside and take in the beautiful night.. They go out of their way to make you happy, can accommodate any dietary needs and in general a 5 star experience without a 5... More

Mr. Yilmaz the manager of Matbah was kind enough to invite our group while in Istanbul to one of a kind dinner. Authentic Turkish cuisine, Sultan's Dish. courses served exceeded all expectation. great atmosphere. I highly recommend this place, try it and enjoy being treated as a sultan.

The food was fantastic. We had 6 different meals and all were excellent. The appetizers were great as well, especially the turnovers. We had children and they were very helpful and accommodating (suggestions, sauce on the side, plain, etc.). Good wine list and it's outside so a great place when the weather is nice.

This was our favourite place to dine in the evening because the cuisine was clearly well thought out, well prepared and the service was excellent. Along with the menu there was a story about when the dish was first prepared (as in which century it was prepared for the first time). This historic part made the dining more pleasurable. In... More

My wife and I dined here twice during our Istanbul visit in early September, 2013. The first time was by ourselves while the second was with ex-pats who have lived long in Istanbul. Both times were delightful. A perusal of the Matbah website and the content here on TripAdvisor will provide you the basic information about this remarkable restaurant. You'll... More

The summer garden in Matbah was a lovely setting for our meal with friends. We had spotted the lamb shank looked good and it definitely didn't disappoint! We knew that the meal would be a little more pricey than some restaurants we'd eaten at previously but it was definitely worth it. The wine selection was great and the service good.... More
