A journey back in time

Being in the old Fort area, we felt we had to visit this venerable, even iconic tea room. It certainly was like stepping back in time, its genteel shabbiness evoking the colonial past. It is a basic cafe and tea room, but it certainly has a special atmosphere! We had tea and pastries, the Ceylon... read more

Very airy restaurant/cafe in an old colonial building. Obviously popular with locals especially businessmen on their lunch or tea break which is always an indication of whether an eating place is good because if the locals eat there then it is! Closes late afternoon. Tuesday Lunch Special is local food wrapped in banana leaf consisting of rice, vegetable, chicken, a... More

My wife and I had lunch here with our tuk tuk driver Saman. The best in Colombo, call him on 0722833682. The food was good, the service did leave a bit to be desired. If you want to try something different, they have marshmallow pudding. It is pretty sweet.

Nice little tea room. Food and service were excellent. Obviously we came here because it was a landmark in 80's music culture. Its a shame its not promoted as such, because it still retains much of the charm from that period of time.

I visited the Pagoda Tea Room recently when I went to Fort . Appearance of the place looks very pleasant as I can remember 40 years ago. This place took me back in time as I have very fond memories of this place. When I was a child,I remembering coming here to have tea & pastries with my grand mother. I'am... More

For a quiet and affordable pit stop whilst walking the streets of colombo this is the place, I sat outside and watched the people pass by, the food was scrumptous and the lime juice was the best I have had anywhere. Try it out!

Just thinking about this place makes me hungry like the wolf - HA! Tea's great and so are the pastries so don't be too picky - just get 3 of everything. I will miss you Pagoda Tea room.

This was a good lunch time venue close to the Dutch Hospital. The veg plate was excellent value at 180 rps, was well presented and tasty if a little salty. If you are true veg note it came with small dried fish eg anchovy like. Service was prompt and the restaurant was frequented by SL business people, a good sign.... More

Just a little walked across from the expensive Dutch Hospital and into this old and love place. Local dishes, cakes and pastries. All are value for money. The only disappointment is that it can be very humid/hot during the afternoon as there is no A/C. Will visit again.

Put this one on the list for a tea stop after checking out the unbelievable, though now rather untended colonial architecture of the fort area. After wandering around in the hot sun looking at these rather beautiful relics we retreated to the Pagoda Tea Room - another rather beautiful relic - FULL of ambience and a perfect end to a... More
