A beautifully appointed restaurant in a very elegant hotel. The service was good: attentive but not overbearing. Two menus, one Lao, one European. The Lao food seemed overpriced, but we did not try it so cannot comment on the quality. The last time we were here, at lunch on a weekend many years ago, we were very disappointed with the... More

We spent a week in Laos and this was easily the best meal we had during our holiday. We were following a recommendation in Rough Guides and were a little sceptical when we arrived to an empty restaurant. But we had our best meal in Laos -- great French food at reasonable prices. We highly recommend the cauliflower soup, escargot... More

This beautiful restaurant is on the ground floor of the magnificent Settha Palace Hotel in Vientiane, Lao. It has marble floors and large dark wood French doors overlooking gardens and the linens are crisp and very white. It offers a French menu and a Lao menu. We had lunch there a few days ago and it was quite an experience... More

Me and my partner wanted a special place to go for New Year's Eve. It is an attractive restaurant and a nice setting for a special celebration. We were a little worried because we suspected we might be the only table or one of four eating in the restaurant. It is odd how often we have sat in lovely but... More

A very pleasant welcome followed by our waiter offering advice for vegetarian choices (my girlfriend is unfortunately a vegetarian). This is perhaps the most sophisticated restaurant we visited in Laos. The entire hotel was decorated in colonial-style and had real charm. It was just a shame the restaurant was completely empty. The consequence was that you could hear a pin... More

This was an exceptionally pleasant place to have a meal, which cost less for what it is than you would pay in a major European city. The guidebook says that for ambience or Classiness (rather) there is nothing like it in Vientaine, and I'm sure this is true. I resent paying 20 times the going rate for bottles of water... More

Excellent food and service. Really recommend the poached eggs in red wine for starters. A good evening and would highly recommend.

My daughter and I ate at this Settha Palace Hotel restaurant on January 14, 2013...what a treat!!! We learned from the restaurant manager, M. Herrscher, that the restaurant recently acquired a new chef, and a Lao menu in addition to the French menu. I believe the restaurant also recently acquired a new name, which is probably why there haven't been... More

I spent a delightful lunch with some friends. We were 4, two had western and two had Lao food. Everything was perfect! I enjoyed the pork chopped with herbs (lap), the Lao sausage and the fish steamed with herbs in banana leaves. I'm only sorry that this was so copious that I was "imleo" and can't report in their famed... More

at times it could all get a little Fawltey Towers but actually the service could not have been better. The new management were determined to get the place back on track and had cut the prices and upped the standards. This is French cuisine in the tropics in a lovely colonial atmosphere - when word gets round the buzz in... More
