We heard from several sources that the spring rolls here were fantastic - - and indeed they were; no hype in the reviews. Service is great, too. The waiter spoke excellent English and even described for us some options we had on how the spring rolls were prepared instead of just taking the order and leaving. We appreciated the sincerity.

So far the best fresh spring rolls I've ever eaten. Everything works. Nothing to complain. Menu was quite identical with "Gourmet corner".

We had lunch here on our last day at the hotel and also ate at the restaurant each morning. The breakfasts are excellent and cater to both Asian and European guests, they have a very good buffet with fresh fruit, pastries and fried breakfast. In addition there is an al a carte menu where you can have omelette and eggs... More

We visited for dinner and were satisfied with the food quality. The essence is however not very authentic and clearly setup for tourists - not a bad thing necessarily. Atmosphere is pretty western and is quite different from the "normal" old quarter surrounding. When we had dinner the place was relatively empty - next to ours 3 other table were... More

We stayed in the Essence Hotel so eating at the restaurant was very easy. We had 2 dinners and 1 lunch here plus as guests of the hotel a daily breakfast. Firstly the staff were great. Very friendly and helpful. When our meals arrived at the table the staff would help to explain how they should be eaten. Our lunch... More

We went there because of the reviews. It was ok, but not exceptional and doesn't deserve to be in top 10. 1) this restaurant is inside an hotel. It lacks charm but the staff is very attentive. Maybe too much. 2) food is good. But not exceptional. We had a chicken for example that was nice. The mango salad is... More

Dear valued guest, Thank you very much for your candid review. There is nothing more helpful than actually hearing constructive criticism. Your pleasance of our services, your nice comments about the presentation of some dishes and your excellent comments of mango salad is a great value to us and it partly proved that other reviewers were not wrong about our... No idea why others consider this restaurant as outstanding or classy. It is neither. However, we very much enjoyed the food, the laid back atmosphere and especially the service. The dishes were tasty and reasonably priced. However, there are other Hanoi restaurants (I've reviewed two) with innovative gourmet Vietnamese food, albeit for more money. All in all, Essence provides a... More

During our asia tour this was definitely up there as one of the best restaurants we visited. Quality food, great service, nice ambience and a very reasonable price.. What more does one want? I loved Hanoi, once i got used the the whizzing motorbikes:), this restaurant adds to the whole experience of visiting this lovely city.

We arrived late and this was the only option as it was pouring with rain. Delicious Bun Cha and spring rolls. We were also staying at the hotel and had the breakfast a number of mornings which didn't disappoint.
