Description: Created in December, 2008, by three French friends, Minh Spielmann...
Created in December, 2008, by three French friends, Minh Spielmann, Benjamin Rascalou & Anthony Balenci, La Badiane -French for the Star Anise spice- is heralding its claim to be one of the best restaurants in Vietnam dedicated to fusion of flavors and international gastronomy. Surrounded by harmonious leaf plants, & walls predominantly white alternating with carefully chosen vivid colors, the place provides for a true feeling of calm and elegance, which gathers the best conditions to let your senses express themselves. When coming in, an open-sky corridor planted with luxuriant vegetation leads you towards the heart of the restaurant. One’s attention will be instantly caught by the multitude of perfumes & aromas flowing out of the open front kitchen. Then, depending on your mood & weather permitting, you can have your meal in the airy Patio, calm, convivial & surrounded by photographic art works. For a more intimate setting with warm colors you can choose one of the three air-conditioned rooms located between the ground and the first floor. At la Badiane, all is about food but there’s also great attention paid to the service and the overall atmosphere, so that we make sure you enjoy every aspect of your meal. La Badiane, top 500 Restaurants in Asia by Miele Guide and “Certificate of Excellence” by Trip Advisor in 3 consecutive years 2012, 2013 and 2014 will never fail to satisfy you. Moreover, at this very same “picky” travel community, there were more than 300 upvotes as “EXCELLENT” for La Badiane – a formidable rating which can only be seen for top-end restaurants.

Located just west of the city centre, La Badiene's charming colonial-style building sets the scene for a gorgeously presented and sumptuous French-Asian fusion menu (emphasis on the French). Service was good and the manager seems to maintain a close presence throughout his restaurant. The meal was expensive by local standards (at $50 pp. for the cheapest 3 course set menu),... More

Beautiful colonial villa. Great 3 course set menu lunch with lots of choice. Tranquil setting away from hustle and bustle. Would be a lovely evening spot to dine too.

The restaurant is located in a nice old house of the old Hanoi city, which is both charming and elegant. However, the food itself is quite ordinary (with the exception of the deserts, above average) and does not come up to the price it requests.

I looked online and decided I'd go for their set lunch menu as it included an appetizer, main or salad or pasta, and dessert for $18. So it's more than most meals here but a great deal for lunch. I sat up in an air conditioned room, but the downstairs patio looked nice too. I had their spring rolls (it... More

I first went to La Badiane in 2012 and I remember the dinner as being perfect in all possible ways, but for a ton of reasons I haven’t been back since – until now. I recently had dinner there again – a pleasant business dinner in good company. And maybe it was my high expectations or maybe my memory was... More

It was superb in every way, oh perhaps the decor was a little tawdry. Amazing food, excellent service. We are from Melbourne, Australia which has some top Chefs and this was equal if not better than some of the best finest dining we have experienced there, and indeed anywhere. We are only sorry that we didn't get to the cafe... More

we were a party of 6 visiting this restaurant in March 2014. Initial impressions on entering the restaurant were good, it having a nice ambiance. Service was reasonably good, but not overly attentive Entrees and main meals were of a high standard. The wine list was good and reasonable priced for this level of restaurant. The cocktails were good Desert... More

I have visited La Badiane many times, usually for lunch as it seems to suit my schedule better. The food is beautiful, delicious and interesting. The ambiance is warm, charming and quaint. To add to a perfect list, the service is excellent. These are just some of a few reasons why La Badiane is my favorite restaurant in Hanoi.
