Upscale lunch in Hanoi

Set in the diplomatic area of Hanoi, this French restaurant makes one feel like they could be part of a spy novel. The food and service were very good. After having other meals in the Old Quarter at very local Vietnamese restaurants, this was a refined French meal. There were 6 of us and enjoyed... read more

I have to say this is close to the worse alleged fine dining experience I have ever had in my life. We opted for the six course menu and it went down hill from the on set. It seemed the french waiter was doing the cooking as he kept disappearing out to the kitchen for long periods of time and... More

We had the 'Summer' menu. Incredibly fussy presentation, but flavour combinations did not work. Completely over ambitious. Was the chef here in the kitchen and having a bad day or were the kitchen staff interpreting instructions poorly? We had a table in the upstairs room. It had no ambience - if you are going to have strange hanging light fittings,... More

This place really is totally overrated. Atmosphere and food is not terrible but the price we payed here is at no means justified. We have tried out other high class places in Vietnam but nowhere else we found such a discrepancy between price and total performance offered. Try out something else - honestly there are better places in town and... More

dear Larsoessner, thank you for your comment. we found it little bit strange about your reviews : that's right we are quite expensive (same price than La Badiane) but it's write on the presentation in Trip advisor, which dishes did you take ? how was the service side and the house ? and wich day did you visite our restaurant... I'm in Hanoi on business and had just finished for the day - work near La Verticale. Having had a nice meal there a few months ago, thought I would go again. A lady was on the reception area so I asked for a table for one. She pulled a very disapproving face - as if to say what sort... More

French cuisine with Vietnamese ingredients sounds promising, there is room for creativity and new tastes! The first Mises en Bouche seemed quite bizarre with a glass of fish sauce diluted with water and seasoned with lemon and sugar. Actually it s how the Vietnamse use it as a sauce, but definitely not to be drunk out of a glass! Imagine... More

We were very excited about going to this restaurant for New Years Eve - it had a degustation menu. We then read more reviews on Trip Advisor the afternoon before going. It was good we did so because it lowered our expectations. First thing - it is an overpriced experience, not just for Hanoi, but for any western city as... More

We came here for lunch and it was super quiet, almost no other diners. The food didn't blow us away, but it was elegant and tasty and a nice change from the grimey street food we'd been eating for days. The desserts were scrumptious! Wonderful ambiance and good service. Beautiful restaurant on a quaint street. It's good food - you... More

dear Schen056, thank you for your feedback. in fact, the menu for the lunch is more simple than our A la Carte for the evening. i invite you to come back for an evening, wich will, i'm sure, give you a better impression in term of flavors and ambiance in the room. looking forward to see you again. This was by far the best meal we had in Vietnam. The service was attentive and the food sublime! Chef Didier Corlou has done an amazing job marrying Vietnamese and French cuisine into what is a Michelin star equivalent experience. His innovative ways of incorporating spices into every dish was really impressive and delicious!
