Our beautiful location is on the North side of the moat that surrounds the quaint "old city" of Chiang Mai. It is a perfect place to sit, enjoy the breeze, sunlight and people watching on the main road. The interior is attractive, colorful and bright with our student's art work and long share tables to encourage customers to sit together and make new friends or private tables and a small sofa in the kids corner where there are plenty of books, toys and art supplies to keep the kids happy while parents enjoy their healthy vegetarian or vegan western or local style breakfast, lunch, smoothies or coffee and dessert. We serve many Burmese and ethnic foods that you can't get anywhere else so it is fun to try something new! We also have a fun and funky little Pre-Loved Charity Shop in the cafe where you can not only donate your old clothing, household items, books and more but purchase goods and support our charity at the same time. We have loads of English language novels, travel guides, hats, shoes, scarves, jewelry, men's and women's clothing and more. We also sell organic spirulina, triphala and natural skin care products from local vendors. Please come and check us out today! You can park cars, motorbikes and bicycles along the side of the building.

Great Menu

This is a terrific vegetarian restaurant with the biggest menu selection I have seen in a long time. Big selection of fruit and vegetable smoothies. I love that they support The Freedom House and have a corner that is a thrift store to support them as well. A group of 11 of us went for lunch and... read more

We had lunch here and enjoyed every bite! Tasty Shan curries, salads, rice and amazing smoothies! The cafe supports education and training for stateless young people and it's clear the work they are doing is making a real difference... Had fun browsing the mini charity shop on site... Service is a little slow but this isn't the kind of place... More

We tried the curries and vegetarian options and we were not disappointed. The ingredients were fresh and service came with a smile. There's a little charity shop on the premises too. We enjoyed our meal and it was for a worthy cause. Check it out!

This is such a great place and knowing that what I pay for my meals and refreshments helps their cause, makes my food that more enjoyable. The people are so friendly and supportive. Free Bird Cafe supports the street children of Chiang Mai and there are so many of them too. These kids get an education, learn languages and music,... More

Came here because of the good cause :) The food is ok. Nothing special. Will recommend you to come because what you spend is good for the refugee people.

Went here twice on a recent trip to Thailand and was extremely impressed both times. As I'd recently suffered food poisoning, I needed some "safe" food and went here as it looked clean. Both my boyfriend and I got the trail mix pancakes and they were the biggest, most delicious pancakes I've ever eaten! The server (Ping Ping) was very... More

Please note that current hours are 9:00-5:00 Tue-Sat. That's what the sign on the restaurant said. Unfortunately, We did not get to eat there because it was closed. The rest of this is just to meet the one-hundred character minimum posting requirement. Which is silly, since I just wanted to post the correct hours of operation. I keep trying to... More

I had a pumpkin ginger curry, which I found simply heavenly, and a cup of hot coffee with coconut milk... definitely the best way to end a meal! Both the owner and the staff are very friendly and nice, the place is extremely clean and has a very relaxing atmosphere. In addition to that, everything revolves around a very good... More
