Our beautiful location is on the North side of the moat that surrounds the quaint "old city" of Chiang Mai. It is a perfect place to sit, enjoy the breeze, sunlight and people watching on the main road. The interior is attractive, colorful and bright with our student's art work and long share tables to encourage customers to sit together and make new friends or private tables and a small sofa in the kids corner where there are plenty of books, toys and art supplies to keep the kids happy while parents enjoy their healthy vegetarian or vegan western or local style breakfast, lunch, smoothies or coffee and dessert. We serve many Burmese and ethnic foods that you can't get anywhere else so it is fun to try something new! We also have a fun and funky little Pre-Loved Charity Shop in the cafe where you can not only donate your old clothing, household items, books and more but purchase goods and support our charity at the same time. We have loads of English language novels, travel guides, hats, shoes, scarves, jewelry, men's and women's clothing and more. We also sell organic spirulina, triphala and natural skin care products from local vendors. Please come and check us out today! You can park cars, motorbikes and bicycles along the side of the building.

Excellent, authentic food with a cause

Ever since I visited Burma last year I've been craving that food. Free Bird has a fantastic array of Shan Burmese food: Tea Leaf Salad to die for! I had the tea leaf salad with the samosas and could barely finish it, the portions were gigantic so I took my samosas to go. Crunchy, tangy, sweet and spicy all in... More

My wife & I visited Free Bird Cafe in order to drop off some donations for Thai Freedom House & to have a bite to eat. Unfortunately the welcome we received wasn't very warm even though we were donating goods & clothing. After viewing the menu which really wasn't very inspiring we chose to have just a smoothie before leaving... More

Organic and veg, Free Bird Cafe, just across from the north gate and outside the moat facing the Old City, is a really great place in so many ways! All proceeds from this lovely place goes to the Thai Freedom House, supporting Burmese refugees and Hill Tribe people. Their waitress, Ping Ping, is Burmese/Chinese and is learning Thai and English... More

Had lunch there. Originally went on a Sunday but it is closed on Sunday's and Monday's. The food is very cheap, so if you are on a very strict budget then it could be worth a visit for you. The food is not bad, it's just not that great either. I only had 2 things from the menu and other... More

Incredibly tasty food served in a place with a really nice vibe. The menu is very well thought out and every dish is beautifully presented. And when you eat here you are also supporting a vital social work.

A fellow backpacker suggested this lovely cafe for breakfast and I was delighted she did. Lovely vegetarian food and delicious coffee - I enjoyed a lavender flavoured iced latte! - on offer, with great service and an opportunity to support a great cause.
