The newly renovated Authors' Lounge is simply sublime. We have been visiting for decades and we love the very subtle changes. Everything is fresh, beautiful, charming and even more wonderful than the previous incarnation. This famous lounge has been very sensitively upgraded with typical, immaculate attention to detail. We loved afternoon tea looking out over the garden and the new... More

Several of my friends recommended having High Tea here, so we did and it was excellent! Chose the thai menu and it was full of surprising tasty delights.

Having tea in the Authors' Lounge is sophisticated and inspiring. You feel you have gone back into the past and that some of the famous authors that have been there still are.

The pandan scones are nice and unique, and the mango cakes are yummy too! The only down side is that some of the Thai style desserts are tad too sweet for... More

A very pleasant and refined experience in an otherwise unrefined and unpleasant city. Wonderful cakes, stellar service and a beautiful setting. They had run out of the signature-tea, thus, only 4 of five stars.

The Author's Lounge has some history to it. But that history is history. The Lounge is now more often frequented by rich Thai families marrying off their debutantes. I doubt it looked anything like this when the famous authors were in the area - it feels more like a movie set for some local soap opera. Not worth the inflated... More

The Mandarin Oriental is a hotel that is so well known by so many people around the world and held in such high regards. It is the stuff of legends, and most serious travelers have stayed at this hotel at least once. So of course I was looking forward to it, and anticipated the whole experience while driving there, and... More

We went for the afternoon tea set. The tea served was divine. The foods were great. The best was the ambiance and the experience. It was like a travel through time, going back to the glorious days of victorian times. Nothing can be said against the service, simply the best.

Staying in Silom

Neighborhood Profile
Silom
Despite the lack of any major tourist attractions, this lively neighborhood is a favorite of many. Whether it's the (somewhat naughty) nightlife of Soi Patpong, the various handicraft night markets or the plethora of dining options that tickle your fancy, a night out in Silom is a must on every itinerary. It's worth a stop during daytime, too: join office workers on a quest to tasty street food during lunch and shop at Silom Complex for a great mix of Thai and international stores. After a day of strolling around the congested sidewalks, a visit to Silom's Lumphini Park, Bangkok's answer to NYC's Central Park, is a welcome change of scenery.
