Sheer pleasure to have a very traditional High Tea served quietly without fuss and with a pleasantly peaceful atmosphere
We have paid 1, 350 bahts ++ for an afternoon tea in the lobby of The Oriental hotel (the usual place for the afternoon tea was under renovation)... totally disappointed. .. the scones were horrible (floury) and no re file for the tea I have ordered. The finger foods were ok but not "woua" as we could expect at The... More
For sure you wouldn't be disappointed by the decor in Mandarin Oriental. The hotel has free ferry to pick you up from the port and we were immediately impressed by the decor upon arriving. It does have good history and has very relaxing atmosphere. We booked 10 days earlier to ensure we could get a table because everyone says it's... More

Dripping with atmosphere, and the ultimate high tea. The lounge is often booked with wedding and engagement parties, so spaces are limited. It is the original section of the old Oriental Hotel, and it is easy to imagine early travelers in what was then the lobby. Not to be missed!
Dear skyhoosier, Thank you for this heartfelt review of our Authors’ Lounge. It’s great to hear that you had a good time and that you especially enjoyed the colonial atmosphere and culinary delights. Please do not hesitate to contact me for future bookings, I would be glad to assist. Warm regards, Julia Wuelfing F&B Coordinator More
Nowhere in Bangkok can compete with Oriental for afternoon tea, simply the best. Obviously its not cheap but its worth every penny for a special afternoon with friends or family. I would go every day but would soon be bankrupt and very fat!
Dear Anna S, Wow! Thank you for sharing your positive experience at the Authors’ Lounge and the kind recommendations! We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the delicious afternoon tea creation from our pastry Chef Claus and we look forward to welcoming you again soon. Best wishes, Julia Wuelfing F&B Coordinator More
When we are in Bangkok we tend to keep an afternoon to go for a leisurely afternoon tea in the Authors' lounge. It's always very busy and never disappoint. We usually have one English and one Thai set - you can choose from a nice selection of teas from their Marriage freres selection. Don't book for dinner as you will... More
Dear P H, We are thrilled to hear you had and always have a great experience and thoroughly enjoy our legendary afternoon tea offers. Our Authors’ Lounge Manager Khun Asia strives to make our guest feel at home and how can he do better, than by recommending a pot of the nicest Marriage frères teas in combination with Chef Claus’... I was there only for the afternoon tea with my friend. The afternoon tea set cost at $1350plus per person and it cannot be share, which means one pax need to order one set which I feel it's unreasonable. The quality was definitely not worth the money we spent, each item were over sized for a tea set and nothing... More
Dear Ava L, We always strive to deliver the best levels of service to our guests and I am sorry that on this occasion we failed to do so. Afternoon tea at the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok is one of the most exquisite times you can have. The location in the Authors Lounge is evocative of a more relaxed languid yet elegant time. To have proper leaf tea, an excellent range to select from, and a classic selection of afternoon "edibles" was a highlight of yet another memorable stay at... More

We thought we would try this.... expecting a boring tea service. It was anything but! A magnificent selection of teas, lovely cocktails, and a tower of tiny, tasty treats in a choice of tastes. A highlight of our unforgettable stay at the Oriental.

Feel what it used to be like years ago, when The Oriental was the only luxury hotel in Bangkok. Spending some time at The Authors' lounge, transports you back in time. You can actually feel the vibes. Everything in that room has a story to tell. The room itself has a soul. Afternoon tea is a treat!!!
