A unique food institution

This is one of the restaurants that I keep going back to in Bangkok, as its a place steeped in history and has a unique method of cooking that is not the perceived mainstream Thai food. I was introduced by locals, who have been eating there for over a decade, and I have since gone back to the... read more

Located in a pretty and calm oasis in the heart of Bangkok's hustle and bustle, this unpretentious restaurant offers superb Thai cuisine, a huge variety cooked with love. you can ask for the special of the day or choose from the extensive menu (with English translation), it is all good! Just check the level of spicy heat with the lady.... More

A long running shophouse kinda restaurant in an Old town part of Bangkok. Chote-Chitr serves you authentic Thai food in a laid-back atmosphere. We can easily see why this place is so popular among tourists - yummy food guaranteed, located in a historical area where is good to take a stroll either before or after meal, listed in Tripadvisor and... When I arrived at the restaurant, I sat at the table outside at the entrance. I called the wait staff a few times to order but no one came. Either I was invisible or she was ignoring me. After waiting longer, she finally came, and the food was served quick after that.

Friendly service, cozy atmosphere, great food. Recommended: prawn and mango salad. If you're in the neighborhood, this is your best bet.

Extraordinary authentic thai food in a central place, near Banglamphu. Good value and very quiet place. I did not like that last two times I was there the manager is on her table looking or playing all time with her i pad. So she recomend you what to eat from there and even without looking at you, but still is... More

We went there as it was recommended by our guide lonely planet. The place is not easy to find and the thai food is just normal, nothing special or remarkable. The lady is pretty rude and unpolite but most of all the restaurant was full of cockroaches (we saw them after having already eaten, otherwise I would have ledt before).... More

Some of the nicest food I have ever tasted was served at this restaurant. Simply delicous Thai food, and very reasonably priced. Very highly recommended!

I came here because it is so well known, but I was the only one eating - probably because Thais don't want to pay these high prices. My food (gaeng pengang, if I remember right) was fine, though nothing special. I'm not sure if the grumpy owner (หน้าบึ้งม้าก) actually does any cooking any more because it appears it would take... Staying in Banglamphu

Neighborhood Profile
Banglamphu
While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.
