Decent Food

This was our first meal in Bhutan and we were to learn that we would be getting a lot of similar food at buffets. The cheesy peppers and mushrooms were one of the best dishes.

We're vegetarians. So, we got lucky because the restaurant was observing a veggie-food only month when we ate there. They had a standard course-meal which was cheap given the amount of food they gave and delicious The datsi was great as were all the different preparations of vegetables they came up with. The staff were really friendly. We loved it!

the restaurant was spacious, the staff courteous . we had to order and wait for some time for the meals to be prepared. the dishes were a mixture of chinese, bhutanes and indian. Less spicy , except for the green chillies which the bhutanese relish .

I went there with family for lunch. It was considerably empty and had a sleepy atmosphere. They said that they have a buffet, which we were fine with. The food arrived promptly, and it was a decent spread. I loved the red rice and chilly cheese, even the sauces were quite delicious. While we ate, the staff started telling us... More

This place served our first lunch after landing in Thimphu and boy, we were so pleased to eat there. Red rice, cheese chilly, potato chilly were some of the favorites. My partner and I indulged in multiple helpings. Being a Tuesday, beware, whole of Bhutan will serve you vegetarian food. But we didn't complain!

While this is not really a cheap option to taste bhutanese food, it is surely a good place to take a few visitors to try out the local specialties. The place is big, with plenty of space around the tables so you will not feel uncomfortable even if there is a large group of tourists next to you. A great... More

They serve a taste of local specialties, like ema datshi (chillies cooked with cheese), red rice. Arra, or the local rice brew is served complimentary. There's no menu to speak of when I arrived for dinner, but was given a selection of food. They were served warm and quite a decent spread. Taste is fair, but I was expecting a... More

Near to Clocktower square, in this restaurant we had our first bhutanese lunch. At the second floor in a quite dirty building, inside the location is nice and clean. We had a typical bhutanese lunch, a mix of dishes, all very good!!! there was cheese with chili (spicy but awesome!), red rice, curry potatoes, spinach, etc. We really loved our... More

Bhutan Kitchen is located on the 2nd floor, above a gym. The restaurant overlooks the stadium and is spacious. The seating is low. As this month is a holy month, the restaurant was serving only vegetarian buffet. Items in the buffet were Pumpkin Curry, Cauliflower Curry, Chillies & Cheese, Steamed MIx Vegetables, Corn with White Rice, Cheese and the very... More

The start of any trip is important and getting a taste of authentic cuisine helps to set the tone. Situated across from the stadium in the heart of Thimpu this is an ideal spot offering great food in a traditional setting.
