Decent Food

This was our first meal in Bhutan and we were to learn that we would be getting a lot of similar food at buffets. The cheesy peppers and mushrooms were one of the best dishes.

While this is not really a cheap option to taste bhutanese food, it is surely a good place to take a few visitors to try out the local specialties. The place is big, with plenty of space around the tables so you will not feel uncomfortable even if there is a large group of tourists next to you. A great... More

They serve a taste of local specialties, like ema datshi (chillies cooked with cheese), red rice. Arra, or the local rice brew is served complimentary. There's no menu to speak of when I arrived for dinner, but was given a selection of food. They were served warm and quite a decent spread. Taste is fair, but I was expecting a... More

Near to Clocktower square, in this restaurant we had our first bhutanese lunch. At the second floor in a quite dirty building, inside the location is nice and clean. We had a typical bhutanese lunch, a mix of dishes, all very good!!! there was cheese with chili (spicy but awesome!), red rice, curry potatoes, spinach, etc. We really loved our... More

Bhutan Kitchen is located on the 2nd floor, above a gym. The restaurant overlooks the stadium and is spacious. The seating is low. As this month is a holy month, the restaurant was serving only vegetarian buffet. Items in the buffet were Pumpkin Curry, Cauliflower Curry, Chillies & Cheese, Steamed MIx Vegetables, Corn with White Rice, Cheese and the very... More

The start of any trip is important and getting a taste of authentic cuisine helps to set the tone. Situated across from the stadium in the heart of Thimpu this is an ideal spot offering great food in a traditional setting.

Interesting seating arrangement, very low seats. Great authentic Bhutanese food. Must try their Potato with cheese. Courteous staff, but their English could use some work.

Had a traditional meal the at the Bhutan Kitchen. It was a set meal with two types of rice(yellow and red) lentils, chicken and vegetables. Loved the food here.. Its plain simple no frills Bhutanese food. Loved the home style chicken curry which they served and also the Ima Datchi. They served the local rice wine called ARA and the... More

In Bhutan, one is not recommended to go to "authentic" restaurants that Bhutanese people go to. Apparently only recognized "tourist" restaurants are recommended. Among those we went, this one was as good as others. The dishes were fairly good...although fairly typical. Usually steamed rice (usually red rice), a chicken or other meat dish, cheese potatoes, mixed vegetables, possibly some soup... More

Food was well prepared but a little plain. Service was good, everyone was very friendly. The different presentations of chillies make the dishes quite interesting.
