Have you tried the off the menu pasta: tagliatelle with ham/cream sauce. OMG!! I have not been able to replicate or find it anywhere else in the world. (I've lived in Italy) The rudeness of the owner is cultural. We in the US and are accustomed to certain customer service. Customs are different in different countries. Do we not think... More

Obviously a lot of variation in the reviews of this place. I went with a large group of business people and we enjoyed it. The antipasti platter was very good as was our selection of cured meats. Remember, you're in Ethiopia. Their options are limited. The pasta was good, the wine prices weren't over the top, the service was ...... More

What's wrong with this place? Why all the hype? For some to call it best Italian restaurant in the world, something is wrong!! When some call it "an institution", something is wrong! When the owner greets you with an attitude that's clearly contagious to the rest of the staff, something is wrong! I bet you that's not how they greeted... More

You walk in. The grumpy, unwelcoming owner grunts 'reservation?' He sighs when you say no then orders which table we should sit on. Boxy rooms don't allow for any ambience. Huge prices. We walked out due to the hush and threatening vibe. Go to KG burger for an altogether nicer time where the hosts smile and seem happy to have... More

I don't understand why Castelli is such an institution in Addis. The gentleman who sits at the entry and controls admission seemed gruff and snooty. The food was not seasoned or sauced at all. When ordering fried calamari I expected the breading to have at least some salt or pepper if not a dipping sauce but it had neither. The... More

Every time I'm in Addis i go to Castelli's. This is an institution. Be prepared for a great meal. The ambiance is simple but cozy, in that old house full of little rooms. If you choose right, you could end up thinking this is one of the best italian meals you've had. They have really good antipasti as a starter.... More

Ok, so I'd heard so much about this one, "not to be missed" and all that. The food was good, but I think there's too much hype surrounding this restaurant. Owner sits right at the entrance, allocates diners to tables; would help if he at least acknowledged your arrival

The owner is the redheaded stepchild of the mafia. He was clearly sent to Ethiopia for a reason. The food was OK, but not worth the price.

As Italian living in Africa I came to Castelli with big expectations (probably too high), and I have to say that I was a bit disappointed. For Africa it is definitely a good Italian restaurant, worth to try if you often go to Addis, but it is quite far from the Italian standards. I liked the starters (Prosciutto San Daniele... More

We ordered one main salad entry.... the best sun dried tomatoes in town.... great salad selection on display upon entry... We had ravioli, tagliatelle and lasagna as a main and ice cream cake desert (which was not on the list of favorites according to the waiter).... everything was amazing.... great value for money in my view.... drinks a bit over...
