We did not hâve a good dinner at essaraya restaurant. We had dinner during ramadan and the food was awful. The location is excellent, the décoration of the restaurant as well, but the food is réally awful and quite expensive.

Essaraya is housed in a grandiose old mansion with impressive and ornate decor in the heart of the Medina, Tunis' old city. The first impression is very positive and charming. Once you sit at your table though, things start getting worse. The service is terrible -totally indifferent bordering on rudeness. The food is mediocre and uninspired at best, and unfortunately... this restaurant is located in an old Ottoman house, inside the Medina, they also have a boutique selling local art and handicraft items and at the top of the house you'll find a terrace overlooking the Medina, where you can have a tea or a chicha.

Very grand, like eating in a museum. Escorted from the hotel to the restaurant by a charming guide through a labyrinth of tunnels in the old Medina. The food and service were excellent, main course about USD17. Live traditional music nice but too loud.

Located at the beginning of one of the medina entrance, the restaurant is inside an old palace, typically decorated. A very impressive location that make sense to visit. Good food for the Tunisian standard and very pleasant and careful service. At the entrance of the medina an "old man" will be waiting (with a candle during the evening) to "escort"... More

Food (coucous with fish and coucous with lamb) very disappointing. Fish dry and tasteless, the coucous with lamb contained splinters of bone. The best part of the experience was the decor. The price adds insult to injury - give this place a miss

My husband and I had dinner there in August 2012. We found the service unfriendly, the atmosphere unnecessarily snobby, the food very bland, the seating uncomfortable. I had been to another restaurant in the Medina called Dar El Jeld which was really of a different category, although prices are comparable. If you are looking for an authentic Tunisian setting, good... More

Housed in an incredible old home inside the medina, the classic Tunisian food is as excellent as the decor.

The restaurant has a reasonable selection of traditional food cooked well, although we found better selections and cooking elsewhere. We went mid-week in late September and were one of only two couples in the restaurant, so found it entirely lacking in ambience. It's also worth noting that there is no alcohol served. The restaurant itself is further into the medina... More
